The four stage cycle are: – Concrete Experience (coming across a new experience of a situation, or interpretation of existing experience); – Reflective Observation (reviewing a new experience and reflecting on the experience); – Abstract Conceptualization concluding reflection which gives rise to a new idea, or a modification of an existing abstract concept); – Active Experimentation (planning and then trying out what you have learned to see what result you get). The four stages are: 1. Experience 2. Reflection 3. Conceptualize 4. Test.
Honey and Uniform’s learning style theory has the purpose of persuading people to try their ‘test’ in order to find out their own personal way of learning which could be: Activist like to be involved, like new ideas, lose interest quickly, like to dominate and have ‘jump first/think later mentality; Reflectors like to observe from the edge of the group, insider things from a range of different perspectives, they let others contribute before they do, collect information before drawing a conclusion; Theorists like to bring together different ideas to produce new ways of looking at things, they like things to fit into an ordered scheme, they think logically, often detached and remote rather than emotional; Pragmatists seek feedback from others, they relate things to their own role, practical like to get on with things rather than talking about it, like to experiment and/or try things out; For example, my style of learning related to the Honey and Uniform’s theory am more of a pragmatist ND reflector.
Now that I know what I am more like when I learn, it helps me learn certain things, understand what my first step would be if I am not sure of something (seek feedback), it makes it easier for me when I try to fit into a certain group because by analyzing them I realism if I would be able to bond with those people or not or if I can get my work done in the right way and on time. Influences One of the factors that influence our learning is family. Family is a positive influence for most people as it motivates us to work harder, go to college or university; it influences us to succeed in our careers. Family is also an informal source of support; they encourage us through our years of studding.
Our family supports us through buying us a laptop, books or make sure that we have a quiet environmental for studding. However it’s not the same for everyone, for others family can be very disturbing and non-supportive. A second factor that may influence our learning is our role model(s). Role models could be some people’s stronger motivation to success. This is good because everyone needs a source of motivation in order to motivate themselves to do something or try harder on the hinges they find hard to achieve or are more challenging. Role models can also influence individuals to make bad decisions which may affect their health and lead onto poor punctuality or attendance.
By having poor attendance and punctuality our learning will be affected, as we miss out lessons, great instructions and guidelines from our teachers related to our coursework. This would have a bad impact as we would not be sure of what to do or might understand the instructions wrong and find ourselves failing the course. Another effect of this would be the fact that if we are not in the class room when the assignments are given out; we do not have the chance to ask questions about the work. If individuals do not try to improve their attendance and punctuality they reduce their own chances of success. Teacher style is another factor that may influence learning.
Some teachers make the work look harder than it actually is. They may not be very supportive and may not give enough information or instruction related to the assignments. For example an old teacher may not have an active style of teaching. Therefore, this fact may make it harder for students to concentrate if the lessons are boring and in slow motion. However if the teacher’s style of teaching is active, accurate and understandable students are most likely to find the work easier. A teachers style of teaching can motivate students to learn harder and do their work on time. Aspiration is one of the top factors that may influence anyone’s learning and success in life.
Your aspirations may be influenced by many factors; e. G. Family/home life, previous education experience, use of feedback, friends, relationships and so on. The biggest factor that influences anyone’s aspiration is the expectations that your family or the people you grew up with had from you. For example, if they have high expectations from you, you aim for bigger opportunities. However if they always thought and said ‘you will never achieve anything and you will be no one’, after a while you are most likely to start believing what they say. Last but not list time, time is another factor that influences everyone’s learning and opportunities to success.
Having enough time for assignments makes the difference between a pass and a merit and a merit and a distinction. And our grads make the difference in our future. Working while you are in education can have a big and bad impact on the time oh have for your studding if you don’t organism your time properly. It is very important for a student to organism their time as affectingly as they can. By being able to organism their time, students make their education life a lot more easily as there is less stress and pressure on them. Skills for Learning Functional skills are probably the most important subjects in anyone’s learning development; they are formal types of learning.
The reason for this is because by being able to read, individuals are more likely to develop other type of skills and gain more information about a certain subject, things they take an interest n or about the world around them. Math it’s also very important however could not do without the help of English in formal education and not only. Math is very important and used in our daily life, its important when doing your shopping, extremely important in business and helps getting your formal qualifications. By practicing math very often individuals train their brains to function more efficient and logical. This could help them develop other skills such as inventing new things or realizing their own style of learning.
English and math are the most important and needed subjects for anyone who wants to get into a good course t college or university. In conclusion functional skills are the key to everyone?s success. Feedback is a very important skill for learning. Feedback enables you to see what you did wrong and what you did right; it gives you the chance of reflecting on your work and/or actions; feedback helps you gain more information and can help you figure out your own style of learning new things. Being able to reflect on your feedback makes you a better because by reflecting on feedback you show respect and appreciation towards the person giving the feedback. Observation allows individuals to learn skills simply by watching.
For example, individuals who experience autism are most likely to develop most of their skills through observing things rather than listening or using feedback because this would be harder for them and might affect their self-esteem levels. Questioning: the questions that you ask defined the capability and the level that your brain works at. Questioning is a very important skill that helps individuals gain new information; find different ways of approaching a certain situation or a written assignment. Also the questions you are being asked by other people in your life could give you an idea of what the person is like, what their brains mainly focused on, it give you a clue of what they are about to do; it can also give you a clue of where they are at in relation to their emotional life. For example, my little sister asked me once ‘Do you like anyone at the moment? Than I already knew that she likes someone and somehow wanted to talk to me about it and ask me questions about how to approach the situation or what to do about it and she certainly wanted my opinion on it. Questioning is also another way of bonding with others. Support for learning: Mentoring is a really good and useful source of support and it can have a really DOD impact on individuals learning. Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximizes their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be. Mentoring is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool.
It is an effective way of helping people to progress in their careers and is becoming increasing popular as its potential is realized. It is a partnership between two people (mentor and Monte) normally working in a similar field or sharing similar experiences. It is a helpful relationship based pond mutual trust and respect. A mentor is a guide who can help the Monte to find the right direction and who can help them to develop solutions to career issues. Mentors rely upon having had similar experiences to gain an empathy with the Monte and an understanding of their issues. Mentoring provides the Monte with an opportunity to think about career options and progress. A mentor should help the Monte to believe in herself and boost her/ his confidence.
A mentor should ask questions and challenge, while providing guidance and encouragement. Mentoring allows the Monte to explore new ideas in confidence. It is a chance to look more closely at yourself, your issues, opportunities and what you want in life. Mentoring is about becoming more self- aware, taking responsibility for your life and directing your life in the direction you decide, rather than leaving it to chance. Feedback is a process in which the effect or output of an action is ‘returned’ (fed-back) to modify the next action. Feedback is essential to the working and survival of all regulatory mechanisms found throughout living and non-living nature, and in man-made systems such as education system and economy.
As a two-way flow, feedback is inherent to al interactions, whether human-to-human, human-to-machine, or machine- to-machine. In an organizational context, feedback is the information sent to an individual or a group, about its prior behavior so that the entity may adjust its current and future behavior to achieve the desired result. Feedback occurs when an environment reacts to an action or behavior. For example, ‘customer feedback’ is the buyers’ reaction to a firm’s products and policies, and ‘operational feedback’ is the internally generated information on a firm’s performance. Response to a stimuli (such as criticism or praise) is considered a dieback only if it brings about a change in the recipient’s behavior. See also homeostasis.
Formal Learning Opportunities is the learning that occurs in an organized and structured environment (e. G. In an education or training institution or on the job) and is explicitly designated as learning (in terms of objectives, time or resources). Formal learning is intentional from the learner’s point of view. It typically leads to validation and certification. For example, classroom activities would help individuals gain knowledge about certain things or find out statistics about certain diseases (it depends on the subject). Through classroom activities students are more likely to learn things for themselves and learn how to do more practical work.
Depending on the support and advice they get from their teachers or mentors they could be more independent and learn not to relate on others anymore. However this could take a different turn and individuals that are always getting support from teachers or mentors may feel like they would never manage to do something on their own without someone’s advice or instructions; therefore they would be dependent students instead of being independent ones which would be much more helpful for them in future and life experiences. Placement is very important for students as it would be related to their theory work. This would be very helpful because it gives students the opportunity to put their theory knowledge into practice and get a better idea of what work is like as a professional.
Placement is also very important because it might help some people make a decision about what they want to do in the future as a professional. For example, a student wanted to become a care worker and has done her placement in a care home; at the end of her placement she realized she really wouldn’t like to become a care worker due to the fact that she wouldn’t be able to coup with all her duties as a professional. Informal Learning Opportunities means a learning resulting from daily activities related to work, family or leisure. It is not organized or structured in terms of objectives, time or learning support. Informal learning is mostly unintentional from the learner’s perspective.
Informal leaning could come from you family, friends, people you know or it could even come from strangers. Informal learning opportunities mainly come from the life experiences the individual has been through. Some things we learn from other people’s experience or from our own experience. For example, some people have learn how to read and write from their parents, before they went into primary school; or other people might have never even went to school but have got their friends or family support and have been helped to learn how to read and write. This is what informal learning refers to, learning things as you grow up sometimes without even intending to, you learn some things that could stay with you forever and help you throughout your life.
Another example would be learning how to cook; as for me I learn things best by watching so, most of the times when my mum would cook I would watch re and then I would be able to do it right by myself from the first time (it hasn’t always been like that). In this assignment I will be writing about 6 factors that influence my learning and explain when they are helpful. Aspiration My aspiration comes from various things; however the main one is my family. Ever since I was young my mum would always use to say that when I’ll get older would become a doctor (this was the start of my aspiration). My aspiration has been influenced by problems that my family has been going through.
Because of that I am willing to achieve much more than people think I can or much more Han people hope I will. My aspiration also comes from the inside of my soul. The reason for this is because I understood what my gift from God is, and that is a strong will of helping others, give people hope and make them believe in themselves and in the things they can do to change the situation they are in or a situation they are facing. Whenever I am feeling down, and feel like I can’t do something, I think of my aspiration, and this comes in my mind and I say to myself ‘This is what I want to do, this is what I’m fighting for and that’s why I am on this course’. Motivation Motivation is very important for me and my learning.
I could not go on and do something if I would not have a good motivation to do so. As aspiration needs motivation and as my aspiration started with my family/parents; my first motivation is influenced by my parents. I would never want to let them down because I have, once, and know how ml_ACH it hurts. Another factor that influences my motivation is proving some people from my life wrong, about the things they think I can or cannot do. Motivation is the one thing that keeps me going when I have a harder task to do at work or college; I think of the things or the person that motivate me and that keeps me going. Everything that I believe in is a motivation for me.
Also when I think of my future of how is going to be I already feel motivated, and that is because I know what I want to achieve and that makes me excited and gives me the strength and will to go on. Study Space Study space is very important for me because: – In order for me to be able to concentrate on my written work I need a quiet, peaceful and comfortable place, also if there is movement going on in the room that I’m writing in, that becomes a disruption for me; with other words I get disrupted very easily by very little things. For example, if there are people coming in and out from the room I am in that because a disruption again as am most likely to lose my ideas and become stack with my work. – My study space can also be an inspiration for me, and this could be because of the room being designed in a certain way. Am not very sure if this is related to ‘study space’, however if I listen to music sometimes I am able to concentrate better on my work and be able to do my work fluently. Listening to my music while I am doing my work is helpful usually when my head is not clear; therefore music helps me concentrate on my work and does not low my mind to get disrupted by my thoughts. – My study space is definitely a reflection of my results and overall grades. I like to keep my study space the same over the years as it has a really good review of my final grades. Previous education experience Previous education experience that I had in Romania was and is very important for my education in England.
The reason for this is because I had a very long time when I struggled at school because of my inability of speaking English properly. However when my English improved I was not behind with any work or important information comparing to my class mates because of the Romaine’s intensive style of education. Because of the different education style between Romania and England I benefited a lot and in many ways in relation to my education. For example, in my math lessons the teacher used to teach a topic in a certain way, (usually a topic that already knew), but she would teach it in a different way than the way I already learned it. And sometimes students would not understand her way of solving the problem, but felt more confident doing the work out of the question my way.
Therefore many times it happened that had to explain the whole class my way of working out that question. This fact didn’t just benefit me but it also benefited my class mates by making it easier for them to understand and get on with the work. This fact benefited me by gain my confidence and increasing my self-esteem. Overall previous education experience has been and is very helpful because it makes me understand education by looking at it from two different perspectives. Peers My peers are a factor that has a very big impact and influence upon my learning. Some of my peers are a good influence on me and some that I had in the past were not such a good influence.
For example, in secondary school one of my errs used to miss out lesson for reasons such as, ‘that teacher is so annoying’ and they used to ask me to stay with them and no go to my lessons; I have to admit that I did that a few times; all until I realized that I was missing out important information and assignment, than I stopped doing that. However I had good peers too, peers that would advise me to do my work on time or would call me and ask if I would like to meet up and do the work together. This peers I still have now, and they were and still are a good influence upon my learning. These peers are very helpful because at any time of the day I need their help with some ark that I don’t understand or I have problems finding some information, they are always there and willing to help in any way they can. In conclusion peers can be very helpful and important many times, however everyone has to choose their peers in a way that would benefit them the most.
Mentors The only mentor that I ever had was a really good one and had a good impact on me. I remember she used to come to nearly every lesson of mine when I first started my education in England. Her job was to help me understand what the teacher would teach my class, and that was because didn’t speak English at all back then. She was trying in any way she could; by using simple words, breaking the sentence into pieces, by drawing and many times by miming. She was one of the reasons why my English developed so well in such a short time; a time of 2 to 3 months. She was very helpful and her instructions had a strong impact upon my learning and language development.
I was always thankful for having her in class with me because she would always defend me no matter what the situation was. I think having a mentor is a really good thing for students who come from a different country and don’t have a good English vocabulary or don’t peak English at all. This is because they are more likely to develop their English vocabulary quicker. In this assignment I will be writing about how personal learning may benefit others. This is how my experience benefits others in terms of PIES and meeting needs: Knowledge and Skills My knowledge could be very helpful to other people and benefit them in many ways. For example, my ability of speaking English is a benefit for my parents as they don’t speak English.
They need me to translate for them whenever they have an appointment or anything like it. Out of this they may benefit in many says such as: -financially, as they would not have to pay for an interpreter to go with them to their appointments; – their benefit COUld be saving time by not having to go to their friends house to do it for them; – they might feel like they benefit from this because if they have a doctor appointment, they would not feel shy to tell the doctor through me about intimate or personal things. Whereas if their interpreter would be any stranger they might not feel comfortable enough to do so as they might feel like they are being judged and looked down onto by that person.
They can also benefit emotionally by being proud of me, being able to learn English and will to help them whenever they need me to translate for them. This sort of support is known as informal support. Completing the strength, weakness, opportunities and barriers (SOB) test helped me to identify my strengths and weaknesses. This gave me a clear picture of the barriers I have to overcome. You might be wandering how this could benefit individuals; well it does by giving them the opportunity to receiving professional and organized care. By improving my skills and understanding will help me become better at what I want to do or at what I do at the moment.
For example, becoming teeter in working with children could benefit them as I would be able to engage them in certain activities they might not want to do by persuading them; and activities that help them with their fine/gross motorists development, mental development and knowledge about different range of things. By developing my knowledge and skills I am able to provide safety for my service users. They would benefit from this because they would be protected from any danger, harm or abuse. By doing unit 7 last year which was based on equality, diversity and rights have gain knowledge of how to prevent discrimination. This would benefit individuals as they would not be discriminated in any way by me as I know this would be against the law. Experience: think training played a very important part in my experience with taking care of my grandfather.
The training that I got came from my mum who knew all the medicine he had to take, the amount and time he had to take them at. By getting that informal training I gain confidence and knowledge of how and what I was supposed to do. This benefited my grandfather as he always had someone to remind him of when and how many medicine he should take instead of having o worry about remembering when to take his medicine as he knew there was always someone to remind him. He also benefited by feeling cared for and valued for his abilities or inabilities. My experience in working with children from a very young age was very helpful as when I went to do my placement I already knew few tricks that helped me get the children to like me and get them to trust in me.
This was also very helpful for me as when started my communicating skills unit I’ve already done the practice, so, this helped me write better about the theory. For example, I know that when working with children I should use clear speech, voiding slang including regional words or phrases, avoiding jargon including unnecessary use of technical terms and acronyms, use of formal/informal and age-appropriate language, peace tone and pitch, non-discriminatory use of language, active listening skills, using skills of keeping a conversation going, appropriate facial expressions, eye contact, appropriate use of touch and gestures. This would benefit children as they would feel relaxed, feel like they have people around them that love them and leave life without a worry.
Children would benefit from this as they would feel important, they would feel like there re listen to and that their opinions are taken into consideration and they are not just some small people without a say in the nursery. This could also benefit them by being able to trust in you and realism their fears and worries therefore they would always have someone to talk to and not leave their lives in anxiety. Children can benefit from this as they would be well cared for and respected by what they are and how they are. Another example would be the way I put into practice my experience of planning interesting activities for children. This benefited them as it raised their curiosity, interest and excitement levels and get hem to try new things and enjoy their time I formal education.
This is how professionals experience may benefit others in terms of PIES and meeting needs: Knowledge: Professionals should know that all service users have rights that relate to how they are treated, such as: D be respected and be treated as an individual 0 be treated equally, without discrimination C] be cared for in a way that meets their needs C] be protected from danger and harm This would benefit the service users as they would feel valued for their beliefs, they would not feel like they are being discriminated in any way and they are all treated fairly. Their confidence and trust towards they careers will build as they feel well cared for. By being able to trust their careers this could also benefit them (service users) as they might feel confident talking about all their problems, so, this would give the service providers the chance to provide an 100% good care plan that would meet all the service user’s needs. The professionals knowledge about using new equipment and facilities could be a great benefit to their service users as they might not be lead onto experiencing any type or harm or abuse.
For example, in a care home a care worker has to lift an elderly from their bed; if she isn’t have the knowledge of how to use the required tools for this she might try do lift the elderly by using her own power. So she might end up abusing the elderly without intending to. That is a reason why training is very important and should be provided for any professional in order to deliver appropriate and authorized care. Experience: Professionals experience is very important and beneficial for individuals and the more experience they have the better for their service users. Service users would benefit from this as their care would be delivered accurate, well organized and efficient.
Social workers provide advice and emotional support to help people adjust to changes in their lives, caused by illness, age related problems, disability or bereavement. They may also work with people who suffer from mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and personality disorders. Their job is to work out what type of care is needed, and revisit people who use care services to reassess their needs over a set period of time. They usually work as part of a team, responsible for a number of cases which all might need a different approach. They also need to work closely with organizations such as the police, lath services, schools and probation services.
Individuals may benefit from this by having someone who truly makes a difference by being helped to function in the best way they can in their environment. They can benefit from this as they can have someone to listen to them or someone to help them express their feelings; also by having someone helping them take action to solve their problems or improve their situations. Individuals can benefit by getting advice on unemployment; refer the unemployed to agencies that can help them find jobs; explain to a single mother where to get job training, help with day care and food. Skills: One of the ways in which professionals get their skills and knowledge is through training.
In fact, many workplace skills are learned informally from working with colleagues and by work shadowing. They can also learn new information and knowledge by asking people questions, and through discussions with other learners, colleagues and their NV assessor. They might have done own research by reading books and using the internet. All of this would benefit individuals as they would have a bigger chance of receiving better care. Service users from all over the world could benefit from the professionals knowledge because refashions invent new equipment, new treatments and find out new things about certain disease. All this could help finding cure for different types of disease.
Professional will need to have good communication and listening skills, and feel passionate about supporting other people to live a more independent and fulfilling life. This would benefit service users by having someone in their lives that makes a good difference for them and give them hope to move on, get on with their lives in a normal way despite some of their inabilities or disease. CAP Continuing professional development (CAP) or continuing professional education CAPE) is the means by which people maintain their knowledge and skills related to their professional lives. CAP obligations are common to most professions. Many professions define CAP as a structured approach to learning to help ensure competence to practice, taking in knowledge, skills and practical experience.
CAP can involve any relevant learning activity, whether formal and structured or informal and self-directed. All professionals are expected to get involved in CAP. This would keep them up to date in relation to all changes about care and about approaching care in the best ways. Individuals would benefit from this by getting better and more efficient care; they would also benefit by getting better care planning which would have a great benefit on their holistic care. CAP is very important for all professionals even for nurses and midwifes. For example, a 48 age midwife might need CAP training in order to find out more about new equipment and improve her knowledge and skills in relation to that.
