Topic: Some people think that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that children who are taught to co-operate rather than compete become more useful adults. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion Essay: It can be denied that life is a harsh struggle in which every individual always wants the best for himself. As a result, competition is so unavoidable that many people regarded it as “common sense”. However, “Competition is the spice of sports; but if you make spice the whole meal you’ll be sick.” Everything has its limit, so do the competition.

The question here is should children be aware of competition at very early age? Whether a sense of competition or the spirit of co-operation in children should be encouraged? To begin with, Competition motivates children to push themselves forward in study in specific and their life in general. In fact, the sense of competition that strongly helps bring out children’s effort to improve their comprehensive knowledge, to get high scores and to win great prizes. They compete with each other to get the results as highest as possible. This means, with a sense of competition, the children themselves will try to perform better than others, to be the best in other people’s eyes Obviously, trying to be number one and trying to do a task well are two totally different things. Therefore, many children are likely to be taught to be co-operative, not competitive.

Internal as well as external life now is very complicated and not easy for children at all. In this case, they can not deal with it alone. It is only the spirit of co-operation that deeply helps them get over all difficulties, challenges and complete their tasks effectively. Furthermore, co-operation also teach children to be caring, responsible ones On the contrary, everything has its both sides. What is bad if the sense of competition in children is appreciated? Children will live selfishly, carelessly. They are indifferent.
