Early Bird Catches the Worm Essay
‘Early bird catches the worm’ meaning ‘success only comes to those who prepare well and put in efforts‘ is a true statement and a well known idiom. Actually, in real life people who work hard and help others surely get success. The idiom came from people watching how a mother bird would get up early and work hard to get enough food to feed not only herself but also her children. If the bird gets up late she will not be able to find sufficient food for her family. To describe the essence of the idiom in my essay, I will discuss about working hard, sacrificing for others and helping our fellow beings.
Working hard is very important, because if you say I’ll do it tomorrow, then tomorrow never comes and your work will never get done. The next day will bring its own challenges and issues that need to be worked on. The people sayings I will do it tomorrow will continue to say that the next day and the day after and so on… In the same way, if the mother bird continuously says I’ll do my task tomorrow, as before she will never do it and her children will die from starvation.
So each one of us, including our poor little bird would have to work hard to find food for ourselves and for our children to eat and stay alive. Sacrifice is another very important characteristic that one needs, because to gain something you might have to sacrifice something. As again if you are late and there is a limited amount of food out there, then you will not get a good amount of food for you and your family, but if you sacrifice your sleep and you wake up early then you will get a fairly good amount of food for you and your beloved ones.
Lastly, helping others is also very critical and important aspect of everyone’s life. In October, we observer Terry Fox day, as we all know Terry Fox was hopeless for the diseases he had, but he was mindful to help others with the same diseases. He didn’t say ‘oh well I’ll die anyway, so I should just relax the rest of my life’. He did do that, but he thought ‘what can I do till I am alive to help others in the same boat like me? ’. With one artificial leg he actually set out to run across Canada to raise fund for cancer research. He was not successful in his efforts of running Canada end o end but he collected lots of money for cancer research, which will help generations to come.
Due to this heroic efforts and a sense of helping others without any selfishness, he is still remembered after so many years, he is still a role model for many kids like me. It is therefore said that, ‘helping others is sure way of success’. In conclusion, due to all the reasons described above, we can now understand, why success only comes to those who prepare well and put in efforts instead of just sitting there or talking too much, but doing nothing. Even God doesn’t help those, who can not help themselves.
