Significance of the Study

The study aims to investigate the effects of vermicast and chicken dung mixed with vermicast as organic fertilizers on the growth and yield of string beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). This research will also promote the use of these organic fertilizers to enhance the performance of string beans. The findings may benefit farmers, local government units/DENR, students, teachers who have gardens in schools, and gardening enthusiasts.

Understanding the needs of beneficiaries is crucial in today’s world. By using vermicast and a mixture of chicken dung with vermicast as organic fertilizers for string beans, they can reap great benefits instead of relying on inorganic or commercial fertilizers. Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of vermicast and chicken dung mixed with vermicast on the growth and yield of string beans. The study investigated the performance of 10 selected string bean plants that were applied with chicken dung mixed with vermicast, compared to 10 plants that were applied with vermicast as an organic fertilizer.

The study will be conducted from July to October of the 2013 school year at Gulayan sa Paaralan in Liloy National High School, located in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte. Plant height will be measured until the point where they begin to bear fruit. Once the pods reach a length of 6 to 9 inches and are as thick as a pencil, they will be harvested and weighed. Harvesting will take place either in the afternoon or after morning dew when the plants are completely dry.
