The Creation
Many assumptions have been formed to fully explain the creation story within the first book of the Bible. Even before the evolution theory has been formulated, Genesis already provided a narrative account of origin of the world and most importantly, of the first human. One of these assumptions is the fact that God created the heaven and earth out of nothing portrayed His omnipotence and his power above all things. Perhaps this can be considered as the most essential of them all. It presents the kind of order that the world currently has and from the account of the creation, it can be seen that this order can only be made possible by the power of God. Thus, his power is more evident when he created the universe out of the darkness which originally surrounds it.
The concept of the six-day creation pertains to the idea of the world order which God established from the very first day. The way that God made each creature on a specific day symbolized the systematic nature of the world. Under His power as a creator, everything he created follows a certain process or rule. From the structure of the food chain to the natural processes of photosynthesis, the six-day creation embodied the interconnectedness in which God’s creations manifest. This interconnectedness and order refer to the specific roles of the creatures that God created separately on each day. The idea of the six-day creation refers to how God specialized on each type of creature to be able to fulfill that specific role in the process of the world. With the humans as the last creation, He wanted them to be the steward of the world and maintain that order.
In this light, the Genesis creation story portrayed how the purpose of the earth and how the earth has been made with a particular order that even science could not specifically explain. With each creation serving a certain purpose and participation, Genesis narrated the natural order that comes with each living creature and this order moves and behaves according to the laws determined by God. The six-day creation is an essential concept for God to develop that order.
