Mark Twain said that he more things are forbidden, the more popular they become. And I think that it’s true. There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable. Because people always want something and it’s very easy to get into the habit which can be extremely harmful to your health. Since the ancient past, the human race has experienced temptation and attraction towards forbidden things. It started with the story of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman in the history. They were drawn to the forbidden fruit. In Psychology, forbidden fruit theory is an idea that anything prohibited becomes even more desirable. Ours brains pay more attention to things we aren’t allowed to have or to do. It must be mentioned that people are very special creations. We can choose what we want: good or bad. It is our free choice that allows us to respond to the attraction of prohibited things. And unfortunately, we don’t think that the consequences can be frightening. Let’s take an instance of using drugs or drug addiction.
We all know that taking drugs is prohibited everywhere in the world. Yet, millions all over the world are suffering from this problem. Today this kind of attraction towards forbidden things can be dangerous and eventually leads to miserable scenarios. The results of such attraction end up in addiction which destroys mental and physical health, disrupts family and social life and creates different sort of unpleasant situations. According to the alcohol and smoking, it’s everywhere. People on the Internet, actors in movies and glamorous models in magazines are often shown smoking and drinking. Even every day people on the street can be seen lighting up a cigarette or ordering cocktails with their meals. Most people know that bad things happen when you do drugs. But actually tobacco and alcohol are classified as types of drugs because they are highly addictive. Unfortunately, a lot of children see their parents smoking and it never occurred to them that it’s very harmful. To be exact, it can increase blood pressure or you will be constantly short of breath. But the most terrifying thing about smoking is that it can cause lung cancer. A lot of people across the world die from this disease. It’s very sad.
But why people start doing or taking forbidden things? The answer is easy as pie. Now a lot of people share alcohol in a family setting. And it’s difficult not to start. Someone smokes marijuana, for instance, in order not to lose face and look grown-up among his or her friends. Every day, about 3,600 kids between ages 12 and 17 smoke their first cigarette and almost half of them will become regular smokers, says the American Lung Association. If this trend continues, about 6.4 million current kid smokers will eventually die prematurely from a smoking-related disease. I think that parents must talk honestly and openly about all kinds of tobacco, drugs, and alcohol as well as other things kids may do to try to get “high.” We must do everything to prevent this. It’s very important to remember that there’re a lot of factors that can influence on using drugs or alcohol: curiosity, genetics, mental health issues and so on. If you know you possess any of these risk factors that can increase your probability for addiction, it’s wise to avoid drugs and alcohol altogether. Here are some ways to do that: Make new friends who don’t drink or use drugs.
Avoid parties or social gatherings where drugs or alcohol will be present. Focus on activities you enjoy that do not involve alcohol or drugs. But remember that there are a lot of ways to escape from a life that may seem too hard to bear. And it’s far easier to avoid drugs or alcohol in the first place than to treat drug abuse after the fact. If we put our intelligence and conscience into any kind of attraction towards forbidden things, we can easily let those temptation go and do the right thing. Remember that its better not to start because old habits die hard/
