Some teams have excelled effortlessly, while others have faced difficulties and had to bond in order to progress. One particular team consisted of four enthusiastic students who were motivated to learn and perform their best. Initially, they collaborated harmoniously during their early college days. However, as classes became more challenging, the team members encountered various obstacles.
This paper will demonstrate the challenges and growth that this team underwent. Each student gained valuable lessons and excelled academically. During the forming stage, the team displayed a strong work ethic. They established rules that all members agreed to follow, such as communicating any issues and submitting assignments two days prior to the due date. Assignments were completed effortlessly and resulted in excellent quality work delivered on time. However, as the assignments became more difficult, the team transitioned into the storming stage.
The assignments became more demanding, raising expectations for the team members. In order to stay aligned, the team had to plan and coordinate their efforts. Each member brought enthusiasm and unique ideas to create a solid plan. However, the group had to reach a consensus on a single plan, which caused tension due to differing opinions. Despite some challenges along the way, the team managed to achieve good grades. This experience marked a transition into the morning stage of development for the students.
As the group progressed, trust and willingness to approach work in alternative ways emerged among all members. Collaboration became essential as they aimed for alignment instead of individual efforts. Consequently, the team experienced effortless and enjoyable work. Moving forward through challenging classes, the team entered the performing stage where high-quality work was consistently produced and assignments became pleasurable. The team excelled at completing difficult tasks due to their synchronization and ability to perform at a high individual level.
All members accepted and valued each other’s thoughts and ideas, resulting in high-quality work. After collaborating for an extended period, it was time for the team to disband and attend different classes. The accomplishments were discussed, including both the positive and challenging moments. Throughout the experience, leaders emerged despite the laissez-faire approach to leadership, where team members had the freedom to contribute in ways they saw fit. Occasionally, a leader would assist those who faced difficulties with specific subjects.
The project for the assignment was chosen using democratic leadership, where all team members had the opportunity to suggest ideas. However, the team reached an agreement to take turns making the final decision on the project. Respect for the leader’s decision was upheld by all team members, as they understood that they would have their chance to lead in future assignments. This compromise proved beneficial for the team and ensured the satisfaction of all members. Additionally, when any member faced difficulties with their tasks, it was unanimously agreed upon to dedicate more time to help them understand the subject.
This team had an amazing team building experience, with leaders demonstrating a strong understanding of the subject. All members displayed respect, actively listened to one another, and gained knowledge in different subjects through collaboration. Consequently, the team accomplished significant success at the University of Phoenix. Initially focused on achieving good grades, their goal evolved into something more ambitious as they advanced in their education. This shift motivated team members to aim for exceptional grades and surpass other teams in project quality.
