The film focuses on “Dissociative identity disorder”, a psychological disorder. A family goes to a playground and participates in playful activities. One evening, David, the father, witnesses his wife’s death in the bathtub. Shortly after, their daughter Emily enters the bathroom and sees her mother’s traumatized face. Consequently, Emily is admitted to a children’s hospital and undergoes an evaluation from psychiatrist Katherine. Later, David discovers that Emily has developed a bond with an imaginary friend named “Charlie” whose objective is to bring unhappiness to their father.
David consistently has nightmares every night at 2:06 AM. In these dreams, he relives the New Year’s celebration party that took place before his wife’s death. Upon waking, he immediately heads to the bathroom, suspecting something suspicious. Eventually, he discovers a consistent mark on the curtains that triggers feelings of guilt for not preventing her death. On the second night, he investigates the bathtub and finds his deceased cat. This greatly disturbs him, as his daughter had always claimed their cat’s death was caused by Charlie. Despite initially dismissing Charlie as an imaginary friend, David is now beginning to question his daughter’s claims.
The next day, Elizabeth, a local woman who frequently visits David, came by again. However, this visit upset David’s daughter Emily and Charlie because they were unhappy about another woman replacing their mother. On the third day of Elizabeth’s arrival, Charlie frightened her by waving a knife at her, causing her to fall out of the window. When David woke up, the sheriff visited him to inquire about Elizabeth’s whereabouts. After the sheriff departed, Emily broke down in tears and it became clear to David that something terrible had happened to Elizabeth. At 2:06, Emily pointed at the clock and hastily ran to the bathtub where she discovered Elizabeth’s lifeless body.
With intense distress and determination, David was resolved to expose Charlie’s real identity. Emily notified him that Charlie had disappeared, prompting David to grab a knife and hurry outside. He showed aggression towards their male neighbor, suspecting that he could be Charlie. Upon coming back home, David entered the house and witnessed a door gradually opening. It was at that moment when he understood the truth about his wife’s infidelity and her subsequent demise. The evidence from the New Year’s celebration confirmed her treachery, ultimately leading to her downfall.
Realizing he had a Dissociative Identity Disorder, David understood that Charlie was not a separate entity but rather an expression of his own self. While the neighbor called the sheriff, the law enforcement officer knocked on their door and entered when no one answered. Surprising him, David struck the sheriff’s head with a shovel, causing unconsciousness. Subsequently, he dragged the sheriff into the basement. Upon Katherine’s visit, she noticed David’s peculiar behavior. Suddenly, he forcefully pushed her into the basement and locked the door behind them. It was then that Katherine saw the sheriff and comprehended that it was David who had the issue, not Emily.
She then takes the sheriff’s handgun and kicks the door while searching for Emily, being careful because she is playing Hide and Seek with David. If David finds Emily, he plans to kill her with his knife. They then find themselves in a cave close to their house where Emily first encountered Charlie, who turns out to be David. Instead of finding Emily, she discovers David who pushes her away as he approaches. As David tightens his grip around Katherine’s throat, Emily screams and grabs David’s attention. David slowly approaches Emily, periodically blinking his flashlight every 5 seconds.
In the final flash scene, Katherine points a handgun at David and shoots him when he approaches her. Following this incident, Emily begins living with Katherine. As Katherine prepares, Emily draws a picture representing their new happy life together. However, upon revisiting the picture, it is revealed that Emily has two heads, suggesting she has split personality disorder. This scenario offers strength in aiding our comprehension and recognition of individuals with this disorder as nurses in psychiatric nursing.
Analyzing the behavioral patterns of individuals is crucial for gaining a better understanding and predicting their future actions. This analysis helps us become more visionary and accurate. The presence of split personality in an individual can severely harm their mental well-being, even without their knowledge. This disorder has the potential to turn someone into a killer. For those who have experienced death in their close ones but do not have split personality, they may find themselves able to relate to this film. As a result, they may become engrossed in it, triggering the emergence of a personality disorder from their subconscious mind.
Studying psychological disorders, such as the one described, not only enhances our understanding but also stimulates curiosity about human behavior. This special opportunity is tailored for individuals who possess a deep fascination with comprehending the workings of the mind.
However, there are inherent risks associated with the film. People who have undergone similar experiences portrayed in the movie may find it triggering and potentially be at risk of developing dissociative identity disorder.
Split personality disorder, or dissociative identity disorder, is when a person has multiple identities or personalities. This poses a danger to those around them as they may unintentionally harm others or even kill someone. Each of these personas behaves differently. Without proper intervention and psychiatric treatment, there is a chance that this person might become violent towards others or animals, usually related to the traumatic event that caused the disorder. It is important to note that severe depression can contribute to this condition.
