A theorist called Lev Vygotsky looked and studied how children play and learn he believed that “children are active in their learning” Tassoni 2007:70. Vygotsky believed that children’s play and learning is similar to scaffolding, by this he meant that children should be helped and guided but still have the choice to make their own decisions to some extent, Vygotsky theory enables practitioners to see how a child learn without to much encouragement, this allows us to see a child’s preferred learning style.

It also allows us to see how they can play without being told what to do. Camron showed proof of Vygotsky’s theory as he said that he plays with girls if he a teacher for example in PE, but on his break he will not go near them. This shows that Camron understands that he has a choice on who he socialises with and knows that he has to do certain things that he may not want to.

Between lines 21 and 3 camron shows that he understands what a girlfriend is and what a relationship consist of and the age he has to be to have a healthy rel;ationship with a girl but for now he is aware that they are not serious Vygotsky developed a theoretical framework that social interaction plays is fundamental role in the development of a child’s understanding. ” Every function in the child’s cultural development appears twice: first, on the social level, and later, on the individual level; first, between people (interpsychological) and then inside the child (intrapsychological).

This applies equally to voluntary attention, to logical memory, and to the formation of concepts. All the higher functions originate as actual relationships between individuals. ” (p57). Accessed on 11/11/09 http://tip. psychology. org/vygotsky. html A second aspect of Vygotsky’s theory is the idea that the potential for cognitive development depends upon the “zone of proximal development” (ZPD): a level of development attained when children engage in social behavior. Full development of the ZPD depends upon full social interaction.

The range of skill that can be developed with adult guidance or peer collaboration exceeds what can be attained alone. Camron expressed that he did not like to touch girls or play with them as they seemed to like disagree a what they should play, and their fore I believe that he has not developed a full understanding, as the boys seem to think that boys and girls can not play together. Vygotsky theory was an attempt to explain consciousness as the end product of socialization.

For example, in the learning of language, our first utterances with peers or adults are for the purpose of communication but once mastered they become internalized and allow “inner speech”. Vygotsky theory is complementary to the work of Bandura on social learning and a key component of situated learning theory. ” Accesed on the 11/11/09 Because Vygotsky’s focus was on cognitive development, as Vygotsky theory’s were closely linked to Bruner and Piaget”
