We all have gifts. It’s how we choose to use them that make us unique. One of my gifts is to make people feel loved in times of need and sadness. I enjoy encouraging people with my smile and a great big bear hug.God hasalso blessed me with a great love for music. I enjoy listening to music and exercising to the music as well. Music is a part of me. I genuinely believe that God has a plan for me to share my love of music with everyone, especially those with physical disabilities. My dream would be to bring my music to kids with spinal cord injuries and cerebral palsy so they can get caught up in the music while exercising.
My hope is to travel to Haiti and teach the kids with disabilities the joy of music and singing, so that they can bring happiness and bliss to their friends and families. Every person needs the chance to enjoy the power of music and praise to our God. I would use whatever resources Haitians have to make musical instruments. Even a can of rocks can make an amazing shaker. It does not matter what it is made of, God will be happy with the effort. The Bible says “Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of my salvation!” (Psalm 95:1-3) Music, I believe, is the best way to worship our God. He wants to hear our voices and music to show how much we love
him.Concerning worship,the bible also says: “Praise the Lord!… Praise Him with trumpet sound; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord Praise the Lord!”(Psalm 150)God does not want us to stay hidden and silent from him. He wants us to praise him with every breath we have.
In Haiti, the children with disabilities are ignored and are not given the opportunity to exercise. Movement is crucial for everyone but in particular those with physical disabilities. I would encourage and teach the children with disabilities to exercise every day with the incorporation of music to make it more exciting. This in turn will help the pain and stiffness. The simplest movementof a single finger has its benefits. My belief is that exercise is the start of making yourself more independent. Movement can be intertwined with the musical element. For example, I would make everyone shakers or maracas, if I can find the resources to make them, so that they move their arms and wrists. The Bible says “Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!” (Psalm 149:3) Haitian children with disabilities are generally left on the side of the street or on the ground. With the help of music, my plan is to get them moving as well as praising God.
God wants us to help each other in every way possible. We all have our callings in life, just like Peter and John were called to be disciples of Jesus. I believe God wants me to go be with children that possess so much less than I have. The writer of Hebrews says “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”Should I be fortunate enough to travel to Haiti,I will show them that exercise with music can be fun.God loves all his children very much and does not want them to suffer. Jesus says, “”This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Through my passion for music and my compassionate heart, I believe I can show them that there is more to life than lying on the ground.I know these kids can be healed through worshipping and singing to God.
