Living in a neighborhood has the risk that your experience is good or bad; however, my experience at my old neighborhood was extremely great. Astoria which was the first neighborhood where I lived when I first came to this country fourteen years ago, and the combination of factors such as the shopping, transportation, and the location has made this neighborhood a great place to live, and an unforgettable experience. Definitively I have a lot of good memories of this great neighborhood.
Astoria was located on Queens New York, and it has been known as a Greek and Italian neighborhood; however, there was a mix of cultures that have been reflected and its commerce. One of the things that made this neighborhood a great place to live was its wide variety of shops. This was one of the things I loved about this neighborhood that I could easily buy things that were needed daily. I used to live on a street called Ditmars Blvd, and this street was full of stores; such as shoe repair, watch repair, dentist offices, supermarkets, etc.
In Astoria I could find to all type of stores that were very convenient. I still miss my old neighborhood and just thinking of it makes me smile. Sometimes I still go there to visit my brother, and the neighborhood now has more stores, and restaurants than when I was living there. It has become sort of a small Manhattan. Because it had all the necessary things that I needed in a neighborhood; I was happy there.
Transportation was one of the things that made my old neighborhood great, and I used to take the train to go to college and to work. The train station was only four blocks away from my home, and the commute to the College was only about 15 minutes away, and I did not need to spent money buying a car as I do now. The N train which was the train that I used to take was available all the time and it was a clean train that provided me with good service every time I needed it.
I felt so lucky to have the opportunity to live in a place where transportation was reliable, safe, and clean. Being able to see different people on the train, and interact with other cultures it was an experience I enjoyed a lot. I remember I made friends on this train and the view from the train was very nice. Another way of transport was by walking. I remember I was kind of an active person living in this neighborhood because I used to get what I needed and did not need a car just to get something.
In summer time I remember I used to walk to the Astoria Park which was around ten blocks away from where I lived. Another way of transport is by bus which also was near to my house. The bus was reliable and very convenient as well. Lastly one of the good things that I admired about my old neighborhood was the location. Astoria was located around 10 minutes away from Manhattan and because was near to Manhattan it made of Astoria a special place to live. Although Astoria was near to Manhattan the rent was more affordable.
A lot of people who have lived in Manhattan have moved to this neighborhood because it was cheaper than the city. Another good thing about the location was that Astoria was located near to the airport, and it was very convenient when I used to travel for vacation every year. La Guardia Community College which was the College that I used to go was near to my house as well. Because the location was excellent it makes Astoria one of the greatest neighborhoods to live in NY.
Even though I did not spent my entire life in this neighborhood I can say that Astoria was my old neighborhood where I have experience mostly all my good memories, and If one day I have to decide to move to another place, it would be Astoria again. It was a great place to live because of the reliable transportation, excellent location, and great access for shopping. All these factors were a key for being happy in my old neighborhood. I had unforgettable experiences living on my old neighborhood. I would recommend this neighborhood to any person.
