As a child, I had a deep passion for assisting injured people. When visiting the hospital, I was captivated by the procedures and eager to understand their importance. My personal experiences with emergency care, including visits to the ER and interactions with paramedics, nurses, and doctors, profoundly affected both myself and my mother. Opting for a career in emergency services would bring me great joy and fulfillment as it allows me to make a positive impact on others’ lives daily.
I am excited to complete my final Co-op Placement at the Guelph Fire Department to gain practical firefighting experience. Representatives from the fire department visited my school during Career day, providing valuable insights into the job and giving us a tour of their truck, allowing us to hear the sirens. I appreciate the unpredictable nature of this profession, where one may be called upon to respond to fires or serious car accidents at any moment. The immense satisfaction that comes from seeing someone’s face light up after they receive assistance is extremely gratifying to me. Since a young age, I have always had a strong desire to help those who are injured.
Since I was young, I have always had a strong desire to help others. This led me to start volunteering at a PLAYSENSE activity center in fourth grade. During my time there, I witnessed various situations, ranging from minor injuries to severe seizures that required immediate medical attention. The tasks performed by the nurses, such as Gastrointestinal tube feeding and administering medications, fascinated me. My ultimate career goal is to become an Emergence Medical Technician Firefighter for the Guelph Fire Department. This profession would allow me to assist people of all ages and avoid being stuck behind a desk all day. I thrive on being outdoors, working with individuals one-on-one, and collaborating with teams.
