SET INDUCTION ENHANCE STUDENTS INTEREST LEARNING IN SCIENCE Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of applying different type of set induction on students interest, attention and motivation level. Participants will be Year 5 students from who will receive 1 hour weekly different type of set induction along with their regular science lesson. The set induction that i was used in this study was story telling and games like activity. During the lesson teacher will observe my lesson to measure the students interest, attention and motivation level and teacher’s creativity level.
I also took video recording and to gauge their interest, attention and motivation level about using different type of set induction. 1. Introduction I realized that ineffective set induction makes the students to become passive learners during my teaching and learning process. I planned to improve my poor set induction phase by applying different type of activity to get involve the students participation by enhance their motivation, interest and attention level.
The objective of my studies is develop set induction phase to develop the set induction phase to (1) increase pupils motivation, interest and attention to learn science and (2) develop my creativity level in carry out set induction to enhance pupils participation in learning and teaching progress. 2. Procedure I carry out my study for four week, in which one period per week. I implimented two types of set induction activity which is story telling and games like activity.
I used three types of instrument that is questionnare to tests on the students opinion as well as their likes and dislikes about the set induction in teaching and learning process. Second instrument was observation, where teacher will assess pupils performance and teacher’s creativity level. I also video recorded the set induction phase to observe pupils interest, attention and motivation level. 3. Analysis and interpretation. Based on the questioner I identified activity that pupils preferred to be applied in the set induction phase.
Most of the pupils choose games like activity and story telling. According to pupils choice, I aplied the two type of activity in my thesis. Based on teacher observation pupils interest, attention and motivation level increase gradually by week by week. At the end of the month pupils show a great improvement in their interest, attention and motivation level. Table 1 shows the pupils behaviour towards the lesson. Table 1: Observation Of Pupils Behaviour By Using Video Clip. | Pupils Behaviour | Lesson 1| Lesson 3| Lesson 2| Lesson 4| | | Story telling (%)| Game like activity (%)|
Motivation level| Looked forward for a given activity| 70| 81| 85| 95| | Showed high level willingness to participate| 35| 78| 60| 81| Interest level| High intensity of attention| 57| 86| 69| 90| | Showing happiness when take part | 58| 82| 60| 93| Attention level| Give eye contact to the teacher | 65| 88| 71| 94| | Respond immediately when asked question| 69| 80| 72| 85| I get the same results where all the students shows improvement gradually week by week when compared to teachers observation.
According to the observation, it shows that teacher have improved her creative skills by aplying different type of set induction. Other than that, based on the result i found that I’ve good presentation skill where I get rank 5 from the first imlementation until the last. The table below showed teacher creativity level towards the four week of implementation. Table 3: Colleague Responds Towards Teacher’s Creativity Level. | Criteria | Lesson 1| Lesson 2| Lesson 3| Lesson 4| Teachers creativity skill| Use different type of activity in lesson| 3| | 5| 5| | Use various type of materials | 3| 4| 5| 5| | Different ways of presenting| 5| 5| 5| 5| 4. Conclusion In a nutshell, different type of set induction could enhance pupils’ motivation, interest and attention to learn science. Besides it also have a complete package for building creativity among teachers indirectly by developing different type of set induction. 5. Reference Entwistle, N. (1987).
