In the last ten years, society has grown more dependent on technology and made substantial progress. Yet, it is crucial to evaluate if our reliance on technology is excessive. Personally, I view today’s technology as a vital component of my everyday life because of its effectiveness and convenience. If it were absent, I would face numerous difficulties. For example, my blackberry enables effortless communication through text messaging with others. Regrettably, I frequently get so absorbed in reading lengthy messages that I trip over objects while walking.

My blackberry is essential to me as it encompasses everything I need in one convenient handheld device. It provides invaluable features such as roadside assistance, which gives me peace of mind even if I were to find myself stranded in a desert while en route to California. Additionally, my blackberry serves as not only a dictionary replacement where I can easily look up word definitions via Google, but also as a means of entertainment during dull biology lectures, where I and many of my peers opt to engage in social networking rather than attentively listening to our professor.

I believe technology is one of the best things man has created; however, the more technology advances, the more my generation becomes incredibly dependent on it. Our ability to think is diminishing due to the availability of easy search engines that correct our spelling and provide instant answers to questions. Many of my peers and I struggle to pay attention in class because the internet and cell phones cause distractions. We seem to have abandoned the traditional notebook and pencil in favor of using laptops to take notes and search for information on Google.

One simple search engine allows you to easily find research for an essay. The Internet is an amazing source of information and resources that has provided us with the convenience of paying bills, conducting school project research, purchasing unavailable items locally, and staying connected with relatives worldwide. However, it can also easily consume a significant portion of our day, making us reliant on these devices and neglecting the traditional method of gaining knowledge through books. Personally, I find that both myself and my classmates rarely rely on books for class, as we rely on the internet for all our needs.

The rise of technology has resulted in a concerning issue, as it appears that our mental development is not as extensive as it once was. During my time in middle school, the internet existed, but I took precautions to prevent it from consuming all of my time. At that time, I felt more productive and content with my life. However, things have dramatically changed now, and a significant portion of my day is needlessly spent on the internet. This easy accessibility to new information leaves me pondering about the future generation’s capacity to adapt as technology continues its advancement. Will we enter a world where everything revolves around technology at the cost of our humanity?

Today’s society is approaching a state where we resemble machines, distancing ourselves from typical human engagements. The extent to which we rely on technology is becoming automated. It is crucial for my generation to acknowledge that numerous activities beyond the digital realm provide more fulfillment than anything offered online. Rather than investing hours in texting, social networking, and browsing through Ebay, we should prioritize visiting a nearby library and embracing the physical experience of reading a book to enhance our intellectual capacities.

We should give priority to establishing connections with new individuals in a traditional way rather than solely relying on social media platforms like Facebook and Myspace. Our lives have become dominated by technology, leading to a decline in engaging in productive activities. Watching TV programs hinders me from going out for a run or walking my dog. The more I think about it, the more frustrated I become with our increasing dependence on technology. Although there may be varying opinions on this matter, the fact remains that technology is progressively governing our lives.
