The Gun law crisis

Enough was enough twenty years ago at the Columbine massacre yet hardly anything has been done to prevent it. It’s time to review our bill of rights and reconstruct our amendments for the well being of America . Although our 2nd amendment right states that we have the right to bear arms, we need to have more gun restrictions because gun violence has been at an all-time high for the past couple of years.

The NRA has been lobbying money for as long as it’s been around and it needs to stop.“The NRA lobby spent a total of $5.12 million on its efforts in 2017, the highest amount since at least 1990, the last year for which data was available. The amount is almost double the average of the past 10 years.” The NRA is obviously a big organization that has a lot of money to support it. The funny thing is how our nation has a lot support for the Republican party and how those same people push for gun control make up most of the recipients of money from lobbyists. The NRA started a “Stop the Gun Ban” campaign even before the bill was introduced and It failed in the Senate. This Happened after the sandy hook elementary school shooting. The only way people pay attention to gun control is when an incident like this already happened.

“The NRA lobby spent a total of $5.12 million on its efforts in 2017, the highest amount since at least 1990, the last year for which data was available. The amount is almost double the average of the past 10 years.” The NRA is a big organization that has a lot of money to support it. Republicans make up most of the lobbyists. They are responsible for the concealed carry reciprocity. The NRA started a “Stop the Gun Ban” campaign even before the bill was introduced and It failed in the Senate. This Happened after the sandy hook elementary school shooting. The only way people pay attention to gun control is when an incident like this already happened.

Gun control has seen a renewed national debate this year in the wake of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in February. Seventeen people were killed in the massacre, one of the deadliest American school shootings in recent history.Several students who survived the massacre have taken a national stage while advocating for gun reform. The students have become a lightning rod for pro-gun politicians and commentators. The shooting did not appear to affect the NRA’s money-making abilities. The group had its strongest fundraising month in March since 2004. The United States of America has encountere many problems due to the increase in amount of gun owners which has contributed to the rise of crimes and problems that we face today. Our nation has about 65 million people who own a frightening 240 million firearms. This ridiculous amount of firearms in our nation creates a need for gun control. Gun control laws such a the Brady Act can help solve gun problems and make America a safer place to live. The Brady Act and other gun control laws are effective solutions to our gun control needs. Since the law was started in February of 1994, crime rates related to firearms have fallen 25%. The Brady Act does several things fo gun control.

Although people may say criminals do not obey laws and stricter gun control laws or banning guns will have little effect on reducing crimes. There are many myths about gun control reducing acts of gun violence, which are simply not true according to research.Though guns may be successfully used in self-defense even when they are not fired, the evidence shows that their presence in the home makes a person more vulnerable, not less. Instead of keeping owners safer from harm, objective studies confirm that firearms in the home place owners and their families at greater risk. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that living in a home where guns are kept increased an individual’s risk of death by homicide by between 40 and 170%. Another study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology similarly found that “persons with guns in the home were at greater risk of dying from a homicide in the home than those without guns in the home.” This study determined that the presence of guns in the home increased an individual’s risk of death by homicide by 90%.

Claims that guns are used defensively millions times every year have been widely discredited. Using a gun n self-defense is no more likely to reduce the chance of being injured during a crime than various other forms of protectie action. At least one study has found that carrying a firearm significantly increases a person’s risk of being shot in an assault; research published in the American Journal of Public Health reported that, even after adjusting for confounding factors, individuals who were in possession of a gun were about 4.5 times more likely to be shot in an assault than those not in possession.

Gun control decreases crime. If gun control is regulated, then we will have less crime. Access to firearms makes killing easy, efficient, and impersonal, which increases the lethality of crime. Josh Sugarmann, the Executive Diector of the Violence Policy Center has once said, ‘We recoil in horror and search for explanations, but we never face up to the obvious preventive measure: a ban on the handy killing machines that make crimes so easy.”Allowing untrained people to carry guns puts others at risk and it can result in self-inflicting injuries both by suicide and unintentional incidents.
