Indonesia is the largest country in the South East Asia region. As we know, Indonesia has large number of people. Unfortunately, my beloved country has not optimized using its commodities and recourses.
We still have lot of opportunity, which is, has not been or not so well touched, and this is including Information and Communication Technology (ICT) area. The definition of ICT itself is the set of activities that facilitate by electronic means the processing, transmission, and display of information.ICT has become a powerful tool in the fight against world poverty, providing developing countries with an unprecedented opportunity to meet vital development goals, such as poverty reduction, basic health care, and education, far more effectively than before. Nowadays, ICT has an important role in the world since we are now in the information age era.
With ICT, the company can make the business easier to happen with the client, supplier and the distributor. ICT also involving in our daily life, use in the internal interest.Therefore, the number of ICT user in the world is rapidly increasing as well as in Indonesia. The lack of appropriate information at the right time will result in low productivity, low quality research works, and waste of time to pursue information and even to do research which actually others had done or in other countries.
Moreover, nowadays ICT cannot be separated with our daily needs. ICT development is important for Indonesia’s future There are several reason that make me think that the development of ICT is important for Indonesia’s future.The first reason is that ICT has become one of the major interest in the entire world. Indonesia itself still has a small number of IT utilization.
The second reason that ICT already makes the worlds in the era of information, and it changes the economy concept, which 1|Page is now economy has no boundary in time and distance. Nevertheless, the last reason is ICT bring lot of advantages for the future of developing country, such as Indonesia. ICT has a great impact for our daily life. For example, now we can read our local newpaper using the online newspaper while we are abroad.
Another example is we still can connected to our family, relatives, or colleagues while we are abroad by using the electronic mail, messenger, call conference, or video conference. Those are a simple example on how ICT has created a great impact to our lifes. To keep on the track with the world development, Indonesia should following the increasing of ICT development number. Based on the Directorate Transportation and Telematics of Industrial Ministry of Indonesia, the number of ICT user in Indonesia is still in low condition, the number of ICT utilization is only 68.
1%.This is also a great opportunity and chalenging problem for goverment and businessman in Indonesia for the future. Information era, digital computer and networking has changed the economy concept to the economy with no boundary in time and space. This phenomenon is called as digital economy or economy network.
Those things happen because of ICT. ICT bring lot advantages for the economy development, it enabling millions transactions to happen in a easy and fast way. Therefore, for improving the economy development and supporting the economy network, Indonesia should develop ICT in a best way.Moreover, Indonesia has a lot of resources in human resources, world class industry which has a branch in Indonesia, and IT industry cluster which is still growing which will get a better improvement and performa if we use and implement ICT more.
If Indonesia want to accelerate the economic growth, that using the ICT is the great choice to do. ICT is one of the economic development pillars to gain national competitive advantage. ICT can give a big help in improving quality of human life.ICT can be use as the learning and education media, the mass communication media in promoting and campaigning practical and important issues, such as the health and social area.
ICT provides the wider knowledge and information, which can help in gaining and accessing information. As we know, Indonesia is an archipelago country. With using ICT, it will be easier in linking all entities within Indonesia’s archipelago. The communication and trading within one area to another area will be easier in using ICT, since the information exchange is easier.
ICT also leveraging the national resources, ICT can helps in promoting Indonesia’s tourism and local product to the world as well as to local citizen in Indonesia. ICT can bring the simplest way for maintaining the communication between the 2|Page government and the citizen by using the e-government. Therefore, ICT should be more develop by Indonesia’s government, if they want to get those benefits. Future Suggestions There are several suggestions in developing ICT in Indonesia.
The first one is developing information infrastructure, which is easily accessible and reachable for everyone.While the number of internet users in Indonesia has been proven to grow in quantities, the development of internet connection quality takes the opposite direction. Indonesia once again was left behind in the development of internet use, networks, and infrastructures. If the government can help in this problem, the ICT development will gain more benefit.
The second one is improving the number of ICT professional human resources who concern about Indonesia’s ICT development. We need those people to fight together in improving the ICT in Indonesia.The last is clarified and justified Law and Legalization this will makes the growing of IT industry in a safer way. Conclusion Considering how fast the world are moving in the development, procurement and of information and communication technology, Indonesia should make immediate step to catch up if it want to keep in track.
ICT bring lot of advantages, and ICT bring a great impact for human and business daily life. Therefore, ICT development is the best choice in helping Indonesia to stay in the track, and that is why ICT development is important for Indonesia’s future.
