As someone who may be classified as a young adult, it is essential to be able to be self-aware and learn self-awareness for the positive benefits that can affect future decisions and actions. Being self-aware has definite advantages, such as making better decisions and having better relationships.

Building a sense of self-awareness can be rather difficult, but with experience and time, it is something that can be learned and executed with ease. In order for young adults to develop self-awareness, young adults must build as well as maintain a healthy and positive lifestyle by upholding a balance between work and play, sustaining healthy beneficial relationships and being mindful of one’s actions before acting upon those thoughts.

Managing a balance between work and play is one of many methods in which young adults may maintain a positive, healthy lifestyle. By maintaining a balance between work and play, young adults may be allowed to have their fair share of fun, but also know when the line must be drawn. Young adults may implicate small tasks such as keeping a mental or physical schedule and dividing time between both work and play, as it can help set a line and balance between the two.

Investing time for yourself is also an essential factor to maintain the perfect balance, as it lets off the burden on one’s shoulder from either being drowned in an immense amount of work, school or issues that arise. By taking a small break for no one but one’s self, it gives not only one’s body a break but also their mind. If the balance between the two were visibly unequal, factors such as not having time for friends and family and or not having enough time for school and one’s career would come into play. By keeping the balance of the two at hand, it may help young adults stay aware of their time and how they choose to use it wisely, resulting in a healthier lifestyle.

Relationships can be a huge factor in maintaining a healthy, positive lifestyle, thus meaning that a healthy positive relationship is more beneficial than that of a negative relationship. A healthy positive relationship can be helpful to young adults, as it promotes positive thoughts and actions, while compared to a negative relationship, which may result in negative behaviour and mindset. To maintain a healthy relationship, one must put in the same effort, care and positive influence towards the other person. By keeping those that have a positive impact on one’s life, it is beneficial as it is less stressful, and it promotes more positive uplifting emotions.

With a healthy, beneficial relationship comes healthy behaviours and a mindset that supports wanting to grow as a person with the other person in that beneficial relationship. A positive relationship is more profitable than a negative relationship, the reason being that negative relationships tend to influence lousy behaviour and choices such as being untruthful, unlawful, manipulative and much more. Although these examples are extreme, even small actions such as disobeying and or repeated lousy behaviour will often become an unwanted habit. Therefore, by managing the relationship one has, it helps young adults become more aware of people and their influences on others, including themselves, which results in being more mindful and self-aware.

Being mindful, as well as taking time to observe and critically think before acting upon a thought, is a habit in which everyone should get into. By being mindful, along with taking time to think about one’s thoughts and possible actions critically, it encourages one to become more aware of their action as well as to perceive if it is positive and beneficial to the conversation or situation at hand. The benefits in which critically thinking before one speaks or acts may result in filtering out inappropriate or unnecessary words and actions.

A great way of being mindful of one’s actions is to take a few moments to analyze and deconstruct thoughts lingering in one’s mind and to filter if it is appropriate and within context. By taking that moment to analyze and filter, it puts one’s self in a position where they are forced to have conscious knowledge of their thoughts and actions. By being mindful of one’s thoughts does not only include future and present choices but rather also past thoughts and actions. An additional method to being mindful is to reflect upon previous thoughts and actions to determine reasons in which they were executed along with upon what context. When confronted with constant occasions met by observing and critically thinking before acting, the habit of being mindful is gradually increased, thus providing a more conscious knowledge of one’s thoughts and actions, self-awareness.

Developing self-awareness can be achieved through developing and maintaining a healthy as well as a positive way of life for young adults. Maintaining a balance between work and play benefits one’s self by providing personal time but also being productive. Having positive relationships and being in a positive environment will help to grow as a person and to know who is beneficial for one’s self. Lastly, thinking before you act can help filter out inappropriate actions and thoughts, which will force one’s self to think before critically. Between all three of the main arguments and points, they are all connected by one factor;

They all force you to make time for yourself and give yourself privacy and space to do so. Doing so is beneficial and a positive factor, although no one can force you to follow these points truthfully, it is up to one’s self to determine if they want to grow as a person and learn how to develop self-awareness. Most young adults are only just getting a grasp of being an adult. Not every young adult is ready to face the difficulties and realities in the near future; Thus, it is essential to take the time that they currently have to learn skills as well as develop self-awareness to benefit their near future.
