The Bill of Rights was a group of 10 amendments that were ratified to insure the new government did not have too much power and to make sure the citizens’ rights were protected. Of these 10 amendments, I feel there are 3 that stand out and are the most important. The 4th amendment, which prohibits unreasonable searches. The 5th amendment, which protects the right to a fair and speedy public trial by jury. And most importantly, the first amendment, which protects the freedom of speech and religion. Without these 3 amendments, I believe the country would fall apart.
The 4th amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and sets out requirements for a search warrant based on probable cause as determined by a neutral judge or magistrate. What does this mean? I am going to tell you. If you were to be suspected of having something illegal or stolen on your person, the police cannot search you without probable cause and a search warrant. They could not enter your house or your vehicle without your permission or permission from a jury with a warrant. It states that arrest cannot be made without probable cause or a warrant by a jury. By including that, police cannot arrest someone simply because they are racist towards a certain race, or because they do not like that person. It will let citizens feel safe and protected, unless they have illegal or stolen items. It will also eliminate false charges and unnecessary searches and polices cases. The 4th Amendment will impact our nation by increasing the overall sense of safety and privacy to citizens, which is extremely important in keeping our country peaceful and united.
The 5th amendment protects the right to a fair and speedy public trial by jury, including the rights to be notified of the accusations, to confront the accuser, to obtain witnesses and to retain counsel. By protecting the right to a fair and speedy public trial by jury, the idea “Innocent until proven guilty” is protected. No one will be put in jail without justifying guilty or innocent, whichever the accused chooses. This is important because it will prevent anyone accused of crime from feeling like they were treated unfairly and will prevent most from being falsely sentenced of a punishment from a crime they did not commit. With the amendment requiring the accused to be notified of the accusations and the ability to confront the accuser, it will give the accused a chance to plead innocent of charges. Obtaining witnesses will also help the accused plead innocent, and help the innocent not be charged falsely of a crime. This will allow accused persons a chance to prove themselves innocent and the majority of the time prevents innocent people being thrown in prison. The 5th amendment is the second most important amendment in my opinion because it will prevent people from falsely being accused of a crime, and to protect accused persons rights to a fair trial and to prove themselves innocent.
The 1st and most important amendment protects freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press, as well as the right to assemble, right to protest, and petition of government. This is the most important amendment because it basically protects all of our freedom and ability to speak our mind and not be prosecuted for it. Freedom of speech allows us to curse, talk about religion freely, and voice our opinions freely. It does have limits that go along with it. You cannot threaten to kill another person, or commit treason towards the government. Protecting our freedom of religion allows us to practice any religion you please, and not being told what religion to practice or what religion is “correct”. The government cannot force a religion upon someone, or prosecute someone for practicing a certain religion.
This is very important in making citizens be able to make their own decisions and not feeling controlled. The right to assemble, protest, and petition the government means citizens have the right to disagree with the government and peacefully speak their mind without being punished. Citizens still cannot threaten people of government, and cannot commit treason by any means. This gives people the feel of a democracy, which will give them a feel of more control over the government, and not being told what to do and how the country will be ran.
The Bill of Rights were 10 amendments made to the US constitution in order to insure the government did not have too much power and to make sure the citizens’’ rights were protected. Of the 10 amendments, 3 stand out as more important than the other 7. The 4th, 5th, and 1st amendments were more important in my opinion. These amendments insured the government did not gain to much power and stayed a democracy, and protected the citizens’ main
rights.
