Marc Jacobs, the founder of the brand name Marc Jacobs, is an American fashion designer who faced challenging circumstances at a young age. When he was 7 years old, his father passed away and his mother’s unsuccessful relationships caused frequent relocations. At the age of 11, Jacobs made the decision to live with his grandmother, who had a significant influence on him.

In 1981, after completing high school at Parsons School of Design, Jacobs received numerous honors for his graduate collection of Op-Art sweaters that were hand-knitted by his grandmother. These accolades included Design Student of the Year, the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, and the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award.

Currently serving as the main fashion designer for Louis Vuitton while leading his own company called the Marc Jacobs Company, Jacobs has announced plans to depart from Louis Vuitton in 2014 to focus more on his own venture.

Jacobs is an influential figure in the fashion industry with a strong presence on social media. His Twitter account, @marcjacobs, has over 400 thousand followers and his Facebook page has received more than 100 thousand likes. Apart from his contributions to fashion, Jacobs also explores other creative pursuits including writing books and designing watches and perfumes. One fragrance that stands out in his collection is “bang bang,” which has gained popularity and become beloved by many. As a leader, Jacobs sets high standards for himself and his team, embodying the role of a pacesetter. In a talk at Manhattan’s 92Y, he openly acknowledges his desire for attention and strives to be prominent among all fashion designers.

Jacobs successfully battled alcohol and drug addiction in both 1997 and 2007. In a 2005 interview with New York Magazine, he admitted, “It’s a cliché, but when I drank, I felt taller, funnier, smarter, cooler.” However, after overcoming his addiction, Jacobs experienced a remarkable recovery. This was greatly attributed to the support and intervention of his friends Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour, who persuaded him to seek rehabilitation.
