Bare Minerals, by Bare Escentuals, is an award-winning makeup line for its 100% pure mineral foundation and other makeup products, which are made from the highest quality ingredients all free from preservatives, talc, oil, fragrance, and other chemicals that can irritate the skin and cause breakouts. My complexion is a little less than perfect. I have sensitive skin that is dry, but becomes shiny and oily throughout the day. I opt for skin care and makeup products that contain natural ingredients and offer a lightweight feel while concealing blemishes and other imperfections.
Therefore, after doing a bit of research I figured bareMinerals would be a great candidate for me. Just over four months ago was when I decided to purchase this product. I purchased the eight-piece customizable starter kit from my local Bare Escentuals Boutique. For a low price of 63 dollars (a 166 dollar value), the kit contained one SPF 15 Matte Foundation, Mineral Veil finishing powder, Warmth All-Over Face Color, two flawless face brushes, one maximum concealer brush, an instructional DVD, and Well-Cared for brush shampoo.
My personal favorite out of the kit would be the foundation. As soon as I used this product I became addicted! Although bareMinerals makeup does have its faults, the formula, easy application technique, and packaging are many of the reasons why I am completely satisfied with this product. First, there are many reasons why I am pleased with the bareMinerals Matte Foundation formula. The powder is super smooth with an almost cream-like texture when smoothed onto the skin.
Unlike the original SPF Foundation, this foundation is infused with RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex that helps absorb oil and shine without making skin look dry. Despite being a powder, this foundation gives is a really healthy, natural looking finish that is shine-free without being chalky or emphasizing my dry skin. Actually, I feel that the foundation helped improve the overall health and tone of my skin! I have far less breakouts than I did when using a liquid foundation. Other users, however, report that their skin complaints have actually worsened as a result of using Bare Minerals makeup.
These complaints may be due to the fact that some of the products including, but not limited to, the bareMinerals Original SPF 15 foundation and all over face colors contain Bismuth Oxychloride, which is known to cause skin and eye irritation (Starner). This fact a bit disappointing since Bare Escentuals claim that their products do not contain any chemicals that could potentially be irritating. An added bonus to this mineral foundation is it contains SPF 15, perfect for those like me who spend a lot of time outdoors and want to protect their skin from the sun while still looking flawless.
This matte mineral foundation is perfect for maintaining healthy skin and covering up flaws while still giving an all-natural look. Another great thing about this product is that it is so easy to apply – a quick dusting of the powder with the full flawless face brush when my skin is clear and my face looks smooth and even as if I am not wearing any makeup, yet have pretty skin. On days when I need a bit more coverage, I personally find that using a flat top Kabuki brush is easier for buffing makeup onto the skin for a better finish.
The makeup still manages to feel lightweight and give a very natural look. The only negative aspect for me is I have to use an extra concealer to cover my dark circles because the mineral foundation doesn’t cover enough. However, with this foundation I am able to complete my basic face makeup in 5 minutes or less. The process was a bit overwhelming at first, but once I mastered the basic Swirl, Tap, Buff, technique, I was able to apply the makeup a lot quicker. Finally, the packaging is also worth a mention. The makeup arrives in small jar-like containers, but a little does go a long way.
This packaging is not as bulky as some of the mineral foundations seen in stores today. BareMinerals makeup containers also come with a built in sifter and dial feature called “Click, Lock, Go” – a pretty smart addition since loose powder can be a nightmare during travel or if it is accidentally dropped. The product lasts twice as long because this brilliant new feature saves most of the product from spilling. I can throw my foundation in my purse and when I open the lid, the powder will still be where it belongs. Ultimately, it is no secret that I truly love bareMinerals.
However, what works for one woman may do absolutely nothing for another. Since I’ve switched to bareMinerals foundation I have not had the desire to try any other foundations. After all it works perfectly for me and I could not be happier. While Bare Escentuals can be rather expensive, it is more than worth the money. References Bare escentuals mineral makeup (n. d. ).
