Table of Content

Lemon Trifle is a dessert that is loved by many for its delicious taste and beautiful presentation. However, it’s important to be cautious about its potential negative effects. While the combination of fruits and fats may seem tempting, some cafes and bakeries may use fruits to make the dessert appear healthier than it actually is.

The dessert contains the following ingredients: 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, 1 carton of lemon yogurt, 1/3 cup lemon juice, 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel, 2 cups whipped topping, 1 angel food cake cut into 1-inch cubes, and 2 cups fresh raspberries. It can also be garnished with toasted flaked coconut or fresh mint. However, these ingredients suggest that the dessert is high in carbohydrates and lacks essential nutrients for our bodies.

Carbohydrates serve as the main source of energy for our body. They are converted into glucose, which undergoes glycolysis to produce pyruvate, generating 34 ATPs, water, and carbon dioxide during aerobic respiration. The ATP is then transported to cells that require energy, such as those involved in active transport. The liver, muscles, and brain store a limited amount of carbohydrates as glycogen. Nevertheless, any excess carbohydrates are stored as fat within the body.

Eating too many carbohydrates can lead to fat buildup, affecting body shape and clothing size. It can also hinder participation in important life events. Furthermore, fats contain cholesterol that can form plaque in coronary arteries, restricting blood flow to the heart and potentially causing high blood pressure or hypertension.

When the coronary arteries become blocked due to cholesterol ruptures and blood clot formation, it disrupts the normal blood flow. High blood pressure is classified as systolic pressure exceeding 140mmHg or diastolic pressure exceeding 90mmHg. Excessive fat strains the heart’s ability to supply blood to the body.

To prevent hypertension and weight gain, it is highly effective to limit the intake of carbohydrates and fats. For example, it is advisable to avoid lemon trifle as it contains high amounts of both carbohydrates and fats. However, it should be noted that this dessert is only mentioned as an illustration to emphasize the drawbacks of desserts with excessive carbohydrates and fats, without any intention of criticizing those who prepare or enjoy such dishes.
