Dogs communicate in many different ways. Some of the different ways that they communicate are by barking, wagging their tails, licking, growling, language tones and hair standing up on their back. Dogs are very social and are known as man’s best friend. They can understand you in many different ways. We can break it down into different categories; loving or anger.
Loving:
- Licking, wagging tails, jumping on on you in love
- They don’t growl, they almost smile, they lay on your lap
- Man’s best friend
Anger:
- Growl, bite, show their teeth
- Hair stands up on their back, anger bark
- Not man’s best friend but mans watch dog
Dogs as you can see can be your friend, your watch dog or your enemy. Some will charge at you in fright, defense mode or aggression. Others will lick you, bark softly, jump up on you to be petted or wag their tail in excitement. They can speak different tones with the way they bark. This will tell you if they are angry or happy.
When my dog is happy, his back tail will wiggle back and forth and wag in little circles. He yips and barks in a high tone and it is very short, not long barks. You can see his facial expressions are almost like a small smile. His head wants to snuggle up close to you to be patted. He likes to push his head closer and closer into your body to be petted. His eyes have a glow in them and they look happy. They are a soft glare full of energy and love.
When he is angry or afraid, he will growl. The growl is long and deep. His teeth will start to show as his lip is pulled upward. The growl goes on a while and the teeth continue to show. His body will push downwards towards the ground and he is in a squatting position. He does not look happy at all. His hair stands upward on his back letting you know that you better not come any closer or he will charge after you. Some dogs will lunge forward and chase you and want to bite you.
Even when the dog is lonely there will be a sad look in his eyes. The eyes can say they are happy or sad. Sad looking eyes will look downward and have a glaze in them like they are tearful. Happy eyes will be full of life and big. Some sad dogs will move slowly like they are shy and go off to lay down. You can tell they are lonely and just want a little love. Happy dogs are full of energy and bouncing all over the place with love.
Sick dogs can communicate by throwing up, diarrhea and not wanting to be held. They an communicate to their owner that something is wrong with them by the way they act, eat and sleep all the time. A hungry dog will go to his dish and beg for food and water.
So there are many different ways of communication with a dog. Just by paying attention to their actions, the owner can know exactly how the dog is feeling.
