Technology
“A Sound of Thunder” by Bradbury and “Nethergrave” by Skurzynski, are both great and entertaining science fiction short stories. Both of these stories are about different types as technology such as time travel and computer games. The technology in both of these stories takes a pretty big toll on the main character’s life even though the stories are totally different. In “ A Sound of Thunder,” Eckels, ends up having pretty big troubles because of a big mistake that he makes when he goes back in time using the company’s new invention, the time machine. In “ Nethergrave,” the main character Jeremy, gets the offer to live in a virtual world on his computer in which he is a jaguar. He ends up taking the offer because he is promised to live happy and in peace, he chooses that life and gives up the chances of ever having a good and healthy relationship with his parents because he is being bullied in school. I think that they do think in similar ways because both of them are cowardly. Both stories have their bad and good parts like most stories, but they both are mainly about the effects of technology can have on everyone in today’s world, though I am not sure if that was the authors were intended. In my opinion, I think that Bradbury’s story was more interesting and more entertaining than Skurzynski’s story. I liked the idea that making the smallest of things, and actions in the present can change the future in a huge way, good or bad. I wish that it would have ended a little different and was longer because it kind of leaves you hanging at a really intense and interesting point. In” A Sound of Thunder,” Eckels pays to use a company’s new experiment, a time machine, to go back to a time to hunt dinosaurs. While there he made a small blunder that provoked dire consequences. Eckels’ death, in the end, made me feel really bad for him because it was a pure …
