Every single day, almost all of Iowa State’s undergrads are dying. Additionally, over a third of child deaths can be attributed to undernutrition. This emphasizes the magnitude of the global child poverty problem. However, there is a solution that you can actively participate in: sponsoring a child through a child sponsorship program.
Sponsoring a child through such a program allows you to directly make a positive impact on the child’s life, their family, their community, and even the world. The process of child sponsorship involves a few main steps that need to be followed.
- Select an organization to sponsor a child through. There are various organizations that offer child sponsorship, such as World Vision, Compassion Ministries, Food for the Hungry, and more. These organizations have some slight differences in terms of sponsorship costs, location of the children to sponsor, and how they allocate the funds. Conduct some research to determine which organization you believe would be most beneficial for the child or community.
- Choose the child you want to sponsor. All of the programs I have examined feature profiles of children available for sponsorship on their websites. These profiles include details such as the child’s name, birthday, gender, location, interests, family situation, community situation, and even a picture of the child.
Overall, sponsoring a child through a child sponsorship program is an effective way to combat global child poverty and improve the lives of those in need.
