I am going to talk about Harlesden community and how Technology has made an enormous influence in our society and community. These days ict is found in every day life. Ict is found in shops like corner shops and ect.
All of them shops have modern and advanced cash registers and also have digitized cctv fix on walls. Also there are thousands of internet cafes that is open inside London. Most of the public libraries and posts offices have computers for web browsing and is it normally free for school students to use. Knower day’s ict can help us to get around travel and booking tickets.

The touch screen technology makes it easy to use, a type of display screen that has a touch-sensitive transparent panel covering the screen. Instead of using a pointing device such as a mouse or light pen, you can use your finger to point directly to objects on the screen..
these are often use by local tourist they use it to find the nearest restaurant or train station or bus stop to make they there journeys. You also can find these in job centres to help look for jobs that match your specification. This process doesn’t waste time.Also touch screen terminals are available in banks for example cash machines, it is self service and people can withdraw money at any time.
Internet accessesInternet is used get information like if some one wants buy a new phone they got to the internet and search for the specification and check if it is good. Otherwise students use it for homework’s or to talk to their friend on msn and play online games. Adults make use of it to compare prices or to buy products online or to book online holiday tickets. Also internet access is available in youth clubsThe main disadvantage of using internet is that you can get fraud when buying products online or when you giving your credit card details.
Sometimes the internet won’t let you connect if the phone line is busy. The computer can get infected by viruses. Hacking is where an unauthorised person uses a network, Internet or modem connection to gain access past security passwords or other security to see data stored on another computer. Hackers sometimes use software hacking tools and often target, for example, particular sites on the Internet.
Internet in libraryA student that doesn’t have internet at home goes to the library to use internet. The internet is free to use for students so they can do their homework’s or play games. It’s also a place a where they can gather information quickly and easily. The advantage of internet in the library is that the internet has full access so the users can visit any site without the web page been blocked.
Travel: Ict can help to get aroundIf people want to access information on public transportation. They just go on the internet and download the most recent timetables. The internet is also a trouble-free way to book journeys in advance, whether if you are travelling by train, coach, boat or plane.MOBILE PHONEThe advantage of using a phone is that you can make emergency calls and can read look up the map.
And gives you personal security .the use of wap (mobile internet) technology to access the internet. The cost and ease of keeping in touch with othersThe disadvantage of using a mobile phones are that it could be theft easily by people in streets. If you don’t use the phone in care it will get damage and it wont work properly in the end for example spilling water over the phone or dropping the phone.
I think using a mobile phone is useful as I am able to contact people on the move listen to music while going to school. I use my phone in school to make emergency calls or sometimes I Bluetooth songs to my friends.A mobile phone is very important for a business person as they call and text a lot. Or they store useful information like appoiments so they wont forget.
PDAPDA (personal digital assistants). It is use to organise personal stuff like appointments. Also can synchronise with the diary on a desktop computer. It has word processing and spreadsheets.
It has it own mini keyboard and has a text pen. Has internet browsing can send emails.DisadvantageThe disadvantage of it is that if you lose it you lose all your data and it could be easily theft .and its very expensive to buy.
I think using a pda is very useful as you can store useful information and easily carry it around. .CARSCars are use for travelling around. Cars are used for people that work far way or if people got walking problems.
Also using a car can get to your work place faster than busses where you have to wait for busses and change. When bus strikes come up people without cars wouldn’t be able to attend to work on that day. A car contains dozens of different technologies to use on a car. Wearing seat-belts can save your life in a car accidentDisadvantageThe disadvantage of using a car is that you have to pay tax’s insurance.
If you have a sport car or getting in a accident will increase the insurance . Some cars needs 40 pounds worth of petrol for a week or 2 when some people cannot afford that much money. The disadvantages of using a seat belt are that they are not made very well. They can be uncomfortable while rubbing on your clothing and neck.
I think seat belts can be made to be a lot safer and more comfortable.Traffic lightsA traffic light or traffic signal is a signalling device positioned at a road intersection or pedestrian crossing to indicate when it is safe to drive, ride or walk, using a universal colour code.Traffic lights for normal vehicles or pedestrians always have two main lights, a red light that means stop and a green light that means go. In a large city, the traffic lights may simply operate on timers. The community benefits the use of traffic lights by creates less accidents less traffics in roads.DisadvantageIt’s very expensive to repair. Its not a 100 percent safe.
In cold weather, the leds used in traffic lights become more efficient. The people who are colour blind will be hard to see the colours. Also some times traffic lights can malfunction and lead to accidents.CCTVClosed-circuit television is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific, limited set of monitors.

CCTV is often used for surveillance in areas which need security, such as banks, casinos, airports, shops , shopping centers. Increasing use of CCTV in public places has lowerd crime and over public security versus privacy. In industrial plants, CCTV equipment may be used to observe parts of a process that are remote from a control room, or where the environment is not comfortable for humans.
They are used for security reason in like shop if a incident happens like a robbery .so when the police comes they have the evidence. Also it is used in streets now because to reduce crimes and track every move. the community benefits the use of cctv is that it will create less crimes and will have evidence after a crime.
DisdavantageThe biggest disadvantage of CCTV is that the quality of the data you get. Also cctvs are expensive to buy and fix it when it breaks. Also cctv invades the communities privacy and personal life. Also some camera give less quality images.
EmailEmail stands for Electronic mail.email helps you to stay in contact with your family and friends it’s a good communication system and its also free. I use email both in school and at home to contact my mates and keep in touch with my family that live in another destination for example sri lanka, America and ect. I also use email to communicate with teachers in my school and at my home in order to make sure my work is up to standard by sending them my coursework so that they will edit it and send back to me in order for me to re-do it and make possible adjustment which meant that I will the possible quality grade than someone that doesn’t evaluate his work before handing over the final draft.
The community benefits email is by that they can keep in touch with their work place ,home ,friends and ect .DisadvantageThe disadvantage of using email is that you get lots of spam or junk mail and you can get caught to a fraud.Navigation systemAn automotive navigation system is a satellite navigation system designed for use in cars. Disdavantagesthe disdavantage of using gps is that it leads to accidents in roads.also the gps can mofunction and give can be giving you the wrong directions .ConclusionIn conclusion ict has helped the harlseden community emoursly in various ways . new technology has changed life such as computer back then they did not have computer in their work place so they had to do their work mamual after computers came along the work became easir and faster.another one is cctv before cctv came in to life the crime rate was high and very an safe to walk around streets as people get theft ,these days the crime rate has gone down thanks for cctvs.
