Math Suspension Case of Gordon Adams at Arizona State University

Table of Content

It has come to our attention that Gordon Adams, a student going to our school at Arizona State. University, wishes to ‘suspend’ his required math courses because it is getting in the way of his goal of becoming a legal counsel for his Pawnee Tribe of Oklahoma Although the math courses in this school are required for every student, and the reason why it‘s required is that it is to make a student become more educated and well-rounded for their future life, we have reason to believe that we have a special case. Mri Adams makes a good case for why he should be exempted from his math class. This committee should exempt his required mathematics class because with his intended profession math will not be of use for him, he has proven to himself and to us that he has enough knowledge of mathematics that will get him through his everyday life and also use the implied application of mathematics, and for the sake of his future success,  Mr. Adams is right about how mathematics will not use to him for his profession.

In fact, he has consulted with a faculty member in the area of Law and also done extensive research about how mathematics will play into his future The answer to his question was none. This proposition in his argument is also reasonable and if we ask ourselves how mathematics will play into law, we can think of none If a member of the College of Law cannot answer this question, how can we? The University will not be affected by this student if he did not take the required math course. And many of his colleagues has answered with the same response, Not only is a mathematics course not a necessity to Mr. Adams, he has proven to himself and to us through his credentials that he is proficient in his math skills He has brought up many points and provided explicit evidence on his experience in mathematics such as: Scoring higher than average on his GED, got accepted into a community college, achieved a high grade in introductory algebra, and also worked as a machine and welding contractor. He has shown how he has applied mathematics in the real world and also shown to possess the creativity skill that math can teach.

Mr. Adams has provided enough evidence to show that he is proficient at math than some students in this school. As Mr. Adams puts it his math-required class is preventing him from “graduation in time to enter law school”. In this school, we like to see our students become successful but in a case like this we are blocking him from an opportunity. We can see in his petition that he is very diligent, intelligent and very focused on his goal in becoming a legal counselor and in order for us to help him waiving this math course will not become a major problem for this university. Unnecessary mathematics, already knowledgeable in the area of mathematics, and making this student fulfill his goal are why this committee should approve of this waiver on Mrr Adams’s mathematics class Mrr Adams argument is justifiable and also reasonable because he has looked through many sides of the issue on this topic and also tried to seek the answer on his own. With all the evidence on Mr. Adams’s case, I believe that we should accept his petition to waive the university mathematics requirement.
