As little children we are always asked,” what do we want to be when you grow up?”, and for most of my life I have been trying to figure that out. In true child fashion I changed my career all the time. First I wanted to be a ballerina because I took ballet. After that I wanted to be an astronaut, but then quickly realized that career path was not for me. After a number of other career changes I landed on becoming a lawyer, partially because my mother is a lawyer. I stuck with this career plan for years, but something always felt missing and I started asking myself,” do I really want to do this for the rest of my life”. I realized I did not want to be a lawyer, or at least the type that my mother is. There were three reasons why I changed my career plans; the first reason was because I did not want to ignore my creative side, the second reason is I have all was wanted to be a owner of a corporation worth billions of dollars like Jeff Bezos, the third reason is because I did not want to get bored of doing the same thing every day. For these reasons I went on the hunt for a new career, but every career I could think of had something missing from it.

Then I realized why don’t have to pick just one career. After this I made a plan of what I was going to do with my life. I decided I did want to become a lawyer, but a different type of lawyer than my mother who is a trial lawyer. I want to become a lawyer that focuses more on business, real estate, and franchising. I fell like becoming a lawyer will help me get an upper hand in the business world, because I will be very knowledgeable of the laws for these things.Once I spend years building up capital in real estate and franchising. I will use that money to start businesses like restaurants, hotels, fashion, and a production company eventually for felling my goal of becoming very wealth.

This will also help keep my life interesting and cultivate my creativity. After taking the Clifton Strengths Assessment I learned that my top five strengths are futuristic, meaning I look forward to and often think about the future, significance, meaning I am independent and prioritize things based on the affect that they have on people around me, maximizer, meaning I focus my strengths on achieving excellence, command, meaning I can control situations and make decisions, and lastly ideation, meaning I am fascinated with ideas and can make connections between things (Clifton Strengths, 2020). These strength help me with my career because they say I am always thinking about the future of my business, think about the client or consumer, I focus on what will make me successful, I am a leader, and I am a great thinker all things that a great lawyer and business woman need. Although I plan on being a very wealthy business woman I want to start as a lawyer first.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, ”lawyers advise and represent individuals, businesses, and government agencies on legal issues and disputes,” (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2020). To become a lawyer I will have to get an undergraduate degree, take the a Juris Doctorate, and pass the state bar. Although my career involves usually seven years of school and multiple test it will be well worth it considering how much you can do as a lawyer and how much the average lawyer makes. In 2018 the medium annual salary for lawyers was 120,910 with a growth in employment at % 6 from 2018-2028(Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2020).This is a lot more than the average person makes plus it This is the national statics for a lawyer in America however since I do live in Houston, Texas it is also best for me to no what being a lawyer would be like here.

According to Career One Stop, lawyers,” represent clients in criminal and civil litigation and other legal proceedings, draw up legal documents, or manage or advise clients on legal transactions,”( Career One Stop,2020). This definition is very similar to the one Occupational Outlook Handbook, however Career One Stop goes more indepth of what specific work a lawyer does. In Houston according to Career Coach a lawyer normally makes an average of $142,990 annually (Career Coach, 2020). In 2016 the employment of a lawyer was 54,160 it is expected to grow to 62,480 by, that is a %15 change. This a lot of money to have to spend on a lifestyle in Texas.

To maintain the lifestyle I want to live it will cost $6,851 a month which is $102,765 a year including income taxes ( Texas Reality Check, 2020). I plan on having five children which will cost me at least $2,518 a month according to Texas Reality Check, which is my biggest monthly expense. Since I am having a pretty large amount of children buy a pretty large house along with my utilities. I will also need a reliable means for transportation considering I will be pretty busy so I will need to purchase a new car, however it will not be anything too flashy it will be more practical and spacious. Although I will spend a lot of my money on necessities I will also treat myself with occasional dining out, monthly shopping, getting my hair and nails done, and vacations. I will also make sure I have the best hair care. The money the average lawyer makes will well cover my expenses and leave me with a large amount of money untouched. I plan on being married and in the long term growing my businesses into something very lucrative so I am more than positive that I will have a lot of money left over to use for anything I want. I will be able to live a great lifestyle in Houston, however it might not be the same in other places.

Houston is known to be a very affordable place to live so I was interested in seeing what my money will give me in Houston compared to other places. One of the places I have thought about living in is Atlanta, because it is also known for being affordable plus great opportunities for real estate and business growth.  In Atlanta the $100,000 dollars it would take for me to live a comfortable life here would translate to about $108, 125, this is do to the %17 increase in food, %15 increase in housing, %20 decrease in utilities, %10 increase in transportation, and %19 increase in health care (CNN Money Calculator, 2020). Which means it is cheaper to live in Houston then in Atlanta especially since the average lawyer makes $94, 564 according to Salary (Salary, 2020).

Another place I thought about living in is Los Angeles because it just seems like an interesting place to live, although it is no shock that Los Angeles is very expensive it is interesting to see just how expensive the housing is compared to Houston.  In Los Angeles $100, 000 translates to $154,167 there this includes a %30 increase on food, %160 increase on housing, %0 on utilities, %30 increase on transportation, and %21 increase on health care (CNN Money Calculator, 2020). This is a major expense difference of over $50,000. Overall, Houston is the most affordable option especially when it comes to housing, and since I plan on having a big family I need the best housing possible. Once I get my education together it is always good to give back to my community.

With the skills I learn at business and law school I can use them to help my community. One of the places where I can volunteer my time is Shape Community Center which is a black own center that focuses on improving the lives of black people. I can help by sometimes giving free legal and business consultations. I can also host workshops on how to deal with legal, business, and real estate matters. Through this I will be able to meet people and get my name out to the community.

My long term goal is to become a billionaire and own one of the biggest corporations in the world. The first step is to become a lawyer, the make millions and master the real estate game. After that I will take my money and invest it in the fashion, restaurant, movie, and hotel business. I can accomplish these things because I am determined, wise, and have people around me who will support and mentor me. This is relevant to me because, this will give me the means to inspire economic change by supplying America with more jobs. I intend on attaining this goal by 2050, although I may have some difficulties doing this while raising a lot of children. My solution is to hire a lot of assistance and try not to do everything at one time.
