Table of Content

The play Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two young adults who fall in love, but are unable to be together due to a long-standing feud between their families.

“Did Franco Zeffili’s film adaptation of Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ surpass the original?” Certainly, Zeffili’s film was an enhancement of Shakespeare’s play as he made slight changes to the dialogue, improved the setting, and delivered an exhilarating duel between Tybalt and Romeo.

I thoroughly enjoyed the incredibly detailed scenery featured in the movie, including the beautifully designed buildings. Furthermore, I appreciated the open, central location of the scenery within the city.

Franco Zeffirelli significantly enhanced the monumental battle between Romeo and Tybalt. The original play portrayed the fight as unimpressive and short-lived. However, in the film adaptation, the fight scene was remarkable due to its lengthy and intense nature.

Franco Zeffelli’s film exceeded Shakespeare’s play in many aspects. Zeffelli enhanced the quality of the film by eliminating tedious dialogue, altering the scenery, and enhancing the fight scene. In conclusion, the film surpassed the play in terms of quality and overall enjoyment.
