Central Idea/ Thesis Statement: Studying abroad can provide better opportunities because it can yield academic benefits, provide social and cultural benefits and enhance employment opportunities. Organizational Pattern: Problem-Solution IINTRODUCTION (Problem) A. Attention Getter: Have you ever dreams of studying overseas, mix with other people from the other countries from all over the world?
I am sure all of you want to study abroad but don’t have that opportunity. Well, what makes a difference between students studying abroad and students studying at local universities? Nowadays, a difference we can see are employment opportunities for student studying abroad is higher compared to employment opportunities for students from local universities. B. Tie to the audience/reason to listen: Students like us will graduate a few years more, and during that time we will find that it is not easy to seek for a job. Today’s job market for graduating students is extremely competitive.
You’re not only competing for jobs with students from your university or your country but you’re competing with students from across the world. C. Credibility Statement: Once students complete their education abroad, they’ll possibly have very high profiled jobs in well known organizations. Based on a JobStreet. com survey conducted in Malaysia involving more than 100,000 JobStreet. com members who hold a bachelor’s degree, “graduates from overseas universities earn about 12 percent more than local graduates” (New Sunday Times, 2008).
Priority is always given to those students who have internationally recognized degree. D. Preview of main points/central idea: Studying abroad can provide better opportunities because it can yield academic benefits, provide social and cultural benefits and enhance employment opportunities. Transition to body of speech: To uphold my stand, I will explain my first point. IIBODY (Solution) A. Main Point 1: Studying abroad can yield academic benefits. 1. Supporting Statement 1: Student will discover learning in a new way.
a. Supporting detail 1: Academic inspiration is known to set in. The experiences students have while studying abroad often ignites their interest in academic pursuits, and they return home with a more well-rounded education that better prepares them for this increasingly global world. b. Supporting detail 2: For example, in the United States, students can live and study in a distinguished educational environment. It is not only because the facilities there are up-to-date, but also because of its educational mission.
That is to provide students with dynamic skills and knowledge that is needed for their future rather than to feed facts, a method that is still in use in many developing countries, like Malaysia. 2. Supporting statement 2: In addition, studying abroad is the optimal way to learn a foreign language. c. Supporting detail 1: There is no better and more effective way to learn a new language than to be immersed in a culture that speaks the language you are learning in a classroom in which the subject is taught in a foreign language. This can be a benefit for students who wish to master that particular language.
Learning a foreign language will increase student’s educational development, improve communication skills, and give students a world of opportunities for them that they may not have otherwise. Summarization of main point 1: Therefore, from studying abroad, student can learn in a different way of studying, get more experience from the way they are taught and also can improve the way to learn other foreign language so that it will increase student’s educational development and improve communication skill especially when it comes to find a job.
Transition to main point 2: Next, I will explain how studying abroad can provide social and cultural experiences. B. Main Point 2: Studying abroad can also provide social and cultural benefits. 1. Supporting Statement 1: When a student studies abroad, he or she will make lifetime friendships with fellow international students as well as with native students. a. Supporting detail 1: The memories and friendships made could last forever, and could open students up to a global network of job prospects and connections.
Living and studying overseas fosters a sense of teamwork in students, as the group they travel with gets tighter as they experience the challenges of a multicultural situation together. b. Supporting detail 2: Studying and living in a different culture will help students to see the world from a completely different perspective. It is an amazing experience that will change students’ life in the future.
Summarization of main point 2: So, studying abroad can provide social and cultural benefit for students to increase their opportunity to easily get a job in the future as they have experienced lots of challenges of multicultural situation during study abroad. Transition to main point 3:Now, let’s move on to my last point. C. Main Point 3: Studying abroad can enhance employment opportunities. 1. Supporting Statement 1: Studying abroad can help students gain a competitive edge when it comes to the time to start a career. a.
Supporting detail 1: Employers often seek employees with the ability to speak other languages or understand other cultures. Employers look for the skills which study abroad students have, such as communication, analytical abilities, teamwork and flexibility. Moreover, international experience is a critical and impressive part of any resume. b. Supporting detail 2: In addition to the personal growth students will undergo while overseas, the international and cross-cultural skills that student will develop will certainly expand the employment opportunities and, consequently, increase income potential.
Many companies seek out individuals with multi-lingual and multi-cultural experience and skills. From that, students need to offer something different, and studying abroad achieves that. Summarization of main point 3: Therefore, studying abroad can enhance employment opportunities because employers always seek graduates from international universities as they have a full of package in terms of academic, skills and lots of experience. Transition to conclusion: So, from all three points I have mentioned, let’s go to the conclusion.

Close with impacts/call for action: From all three points, I think that is enough to uphold my stand that studying abroad provides better opportunities to students and it is the way to easily get a job and avoid unemployment among students who have graduated.
