    Activity 1
    Briefly summarise the HRPM (i.e. the 2 core professional areas, the specialist professional areas, the bands and the behaviours) The HRPM depicts the knowledge, activities, skills and behaviours required to be effective and successful in an HR role. It is made up of 10 professional areas including 2 core areas which are Strategy, Insights & solutions and Leading HR, the core areas are competencies needed in all HR roles, regardless of which of the four bands you come into. The bands describe each stage of a HR career and shows where different roles/knowledge fall into.

    Band one is for those in a supportive/assistant admin role. Band two is those in an advisory role and/or managing a small team. Band three is for those at a consultancy level leading a professional area. Those in band four will be in a managerial/leadership role of an organisation’s HR. There are 8 behaviours in the HRPM which describe how any HR professional will need to carry out their activities.

    These include curious, decisive thinker, skilled influencer, driven to deliver, collaborative, personally credible, courage to challenge and role model. Comment on the activities and knowledge specified within any 1 professional area, at either band 1 or band 2, identifying those you consider most essential to your own (or other identified HR role) The professional area I have decided to look into regarding the HR roles within my company is the area of Employee Engagement.
    As the HR department of my company are the central point of communication between employees and line managers they are also in charge of monitoring each individual employee’s emotional connection that they have with their job, including towards their work, colleges/line managers and towards the organisation. As there is very little interaction and communication between employees and line managers, it is the HR teams’ responsibility to insure employees maintain a positive attitude towards their job and that this is reflected in their work and behaviour.

    The HR team have to take into account factors that might be effecting an employee’s engagement such as their individual learning style, and look at development strategies to improve employees emotional connection.
    Activity 2

    With reference to your own (or other identified) HR role, outline how an HR practitioner should ensure the services they provide are timely and effective. You should include: Understanding customer needs (include examples of 3 different customers and 1 need for each, and explain how you would prioritise conflicting needs) There are various internal and external HR customers; one example of an internal customer is the call operatives. Another example of an internal customer would be the line managers, an example of an external customer would be potential employees. The needs of employees and managers may sometimes be conflicting.

    For example, managers require high levels of production and longer working hours whereas employees want more time off and more focus on work/life expectations. A good HR department need to work with both groups to find the right balance. A way of resolving these conflicts is to focus on the overall needs of the organisation. Ensuring that the appropriate workers are recruited and retained will help this. The skills and abilities of the employee need to be aligned to their job role and HR need to pride development and training the ensure productivity is reached and to manage turnover of employees. Effective communication (include 3 examples of 3 different communication methods and the advantages and disadvantages of each)

    Effective service delivery (include: delivering services on time, delivering service on budget, dealing with difficult customers, handling and resolving complaints)

    Undertake a self-assessment against the CIPD Associate Membership criteria, identifying any areas you need to develop in order to meet them. Using a template , such as www.cipd.co.uk/cpd/guidance/cpdrecordandplan Discuss your plan with (or provide a written note to) your tutor explaining why you believe CPD to be important and explaining at least 2 of the options you considered for meeting your development needs.
