The U.S. prison population has tripled since 1980 so that on any given twenty-four hours there are 1.5 million Americans behind bars. There is a clear overcrowding job in todays prisons. Why? I believe that the population detonation in the prison system is due to the increasing moral diminution of America. Prisons should maintain unsafe felons off the streets and maintain others from perpetrating a offense. One would believe that being locked up is to be feared. But in today’s society, felons merely do non care. ? Captivity is non effectual in offense decrease?.
But what can be done to repair this of all time turning epidemic? More prisons can ever be constructed, right? Constructing more gaols is expensive and does non work out the job. So we must now seek for plausible options to captivity.
First of wholly, there is the option of merely seting violent felons in gaol. Non-violent felons could be put into work plans. They could pass their yearss cleaning and mending America. Yet we still have to cover with the violent felons. There are some different options in penalizing those persons. Early release plans let captives out of gaol before their sentence is complete. This promotes good behaviour in prison and keeps the prison population lower. However, many released captives merely commit another offense and are returned to imprison. Early release seems as though it would work wondrous, but alas falls short.
