A negative mood and conflict in the workplace greatly hinder the effectiveness of those in that department, In this case, only a few employees are responsible for the negativity and conflict. Since only a couple people are responsible, it will be easier to correct the problem. The first step that should be taken to correct the problem should be to understand what specific problems are occurring. Employing emotional intelligence, it will better help me understand what may be going on in their lives and a way to correct those problems. Displaying emotional intelligence will also help me set a positive example to follow. Another approach may be to implement terminal and instrumental values. Terminal values would help signify what the organization is trying to accomplish and how employees can help achieve these goals. After terminal values are implemented, then instrumental values would be implemented.

These instrumental values would help guide those that are causing problems. Another positive that implementing these values would bring is an awareness to employees that the company does not appreciate conflict or negativity in the office. This may help put an end to the conflict in the office. The final way to help the individuals who seem to cause the most conflict and negativity is to have them take the Big Five Personality Test. This test would allow a deeper look into their personality and give answers to what is the main cause of the problems, Since they have a negative mood, it is likely that they have high negative affectivity and low agreeableness. These employees could then be paired with others who have complementary traits. This change may help reduce the amount of conflict present in the workplace.
