While Physical education has a unique, non-exclusive role to play in the education of learners, it is nevertheless there to enhance learners’ physical fitness and well-being, and to teach them a wide variety of motor skills. It therefore must contribute to the shared goals of education through its activities and experiences. This means improving self-direction, self-esteem and cooperative behavior. So physical education is a programmer in which skills used in sport is taught and practiced, without the competitive environment thereof. Sport however is an international language, as it may.

This part of physical education is within a competitive framework and is practiced in various forms. These form of sport may be for recreation purposes or even as advanced as highly competitive sport. Sport is the niche wherein the skills learned in physical education, can be used in a competitive environment. Skills like administrative organization and rules as well as the physical skills themselves, are practiced here. All of which are practiced together toward a common goal, usually winning.

2. The Plump-line test. Most posture deviations of learners can be observed while standing beside a lump line.

This is usually a long, straight ruler-type line, perpendicular to the floor. The child has to stand close beside it while being observed both from the side and rear. Deviations such as Syphilis, Loris’s and Scoliosis can be observed. For the side view take a line through the middle of the ear and shoulder joint and slightly in front of the ankle bone. Observe any abnormalities. For the back view take a line through the middle of the head, the vertebra and the middle of the buttocks, and equidistant between the heels. Observe any abnormalities. 3.

Knowledge of the structure and function of the body is important because: It gives the physical educator insight into how the body works. It is quick and easy the report any defects you detect in posture and growth to the parents as soon as possible. You should fully appreciate the relevance of knowledge about the body to physical education. And to correct any problems with posture and improve general body strength. 4. Integration in sport means: Because Physical education is part of the curriculum in schools, it must be integrated with other subjects because of its advantages and benefits.

Research has shown that children tend to learn certain academic concepts better through the motor activity medium than through any other traditional medium. Using it to teach certain mathematical principles for example, in the form of a game could be of immense help. Like the teaching of whole numbers, sets, the metric system, field proportions and measurement. Teaching of small motor skills in languages or to listen, speak, read and write. During social studies where the physical environment is important as well as recognizing and exploring the diversity of people’s games, dances and customs.

Also during health and safety lessons may the integration of physical education be accomplished. Like for instance to measure heartbeat and breathing. And to recognize that the correct diet and exercise is important. For art and culture it can be integrated using dances and other physical skills to express feelings and ideas about themselves or the environment. Also it can be used to develop the understanding of numerous scientific concepts and principles like gravity, force and levers. Physical education can also help to explain wide bases, low centre of gravity, and Newton’s laws of motion. Teaching progression during early childhood: A stage of development is not seen as a rigid or fixed set of academic, motor or social skills that must be acquired before advancing to the next stage. But it’s seen as approximate time periods in which to gain certain skills. That said, characteristics of learners in the early primary school grades have a very strong influence on selection of appropriate physical activities. These characteristics include physical immaturity, short attention span and lack of experience in games, dance and gymnastics. They therefore need broad exposure to these activities.

They need to explore and discover how their bodies work. We must therefore emphasize movement concepts and skills. In grade 1 & 2 educators must concentrate on creative and exploratory ways of learning the skills involved in games and gymnastics. This must be done in loco- motor and non-locomotors skills and movement patterns. Dances should involve creativity, developing rhythmic skills, singing games and imaginative movements. Each activity obviously should allow time appropriate to learners’ level of maturity and ability. 6. You may be found guilty of negligence if: Neglecting to assist injured learners.

Permitting learners to play unsafe games. Not giving adequate instruction. Taking unreasonable risks. Not organizing field trips properly. 7. How to improve parent – community links: To better link the school sport programmer with the community regarding parents is not a difficult thing. Keep the following in mind. Good communication helps with most misunderstandings and obstacles. In that regard, you should hold a preseason parent orientation programmer to avoid the traditional problems that occur between coaches and parents. This is very useful because: It enables parents to understand the objectives of the programmer.

It allows the parents to become acquainted with you. You are able to inform the parents about the nature of the sport and its potential risks. You can explain why you do not put pressure on children to early. Parents get to know team rules, regulations and procedures. You can inform them what is expected of athletes and them. It enables you to understand parents’ concerns. You are able to establish a clear line of communication between yourself and the parents. We elect a parent chairperson/contact person at our school through which everything is communicated from both sides regularly.

It is also possible to obtain help from parents in conducting the season’s activities. Positive ways to communicate with parents include the following strategies: During the first preseason meeting maybe discuss the coach’s background His coaching philosophy should also be communicated. Programmer details should be carefully discussed especially (in my experience) what would happen when practices and matches conflict with other extramural activities. Financial considerations are very important. Ask if there are any parental concerns amongst them. Get the parents involved in as many aspects as possible.

Explain safety and other information carefully such as nutrition and equipment use. Also please don’t forget to hold a postseason evaluation meeting where any unspoken problems and evaluation of the past season can be positively discussed. This is a very valuable tool if positive perspective can be held at all time, though it may be difficult. Point to improve for the next season may very identified and this all will help you to become a better coach. 8. Guidelines for the setting of goals: They should be seen as the stepping stones of success. They should be accepted by the athlete.

They must be measurable so that success can be recognized. They should determine what an athlete has to do. Goals must be reviewed regularly, either monthly, weekly or daily. Also I have found specific goal are more helpful than vague, general goals. Not only should goals be reviewed but a specific time frame in which they should be achieved must be present. 9. In my opinion, not only in school sport but in all other sport in general, drug SE (more specifically stimulants, analgesics, steroids, diuretics, social drugs and blood doping) should be banned.

As is the case currently. There is no other way than to back this statement by simply saying: It is against all (fair play, honesty and good sportsmanship) that sport stand for. Being an athlete and avid sportsperson myself, there is no more undignified way of competing in sport, than if the other person has an unfair advantage. We must also protect our young athletes from the pressures of using drug. The aggressive response some drugs create must also be kept from sport fields all ever the world.
