Closed for the Season by, Anonymous Closed For the Season, written by Mary Downing Hahn, is a realistic fiction, and a mysterious adventures book. The story takes place in the present and in a small town called Bealesville. Arthur and Logan are the protagonists because they are the main characters in the story and they’re the one who solved the mysterious person who killed Myrtle Donaldson and what happened to the money. Richard Disilvio is the antagonist because Mr. Disilvio (the name people called him) embezzled money from the Magic Forest and other businesses in Bealesville.
Silas is also the antagonist because he is the murder of Myrtle Donaldson. The other important character is Violet. She helped Arthur and Logan to solve the letter’s meaning. The main conflict in the story is that Arthur and Logan trying to found out who kills Myrtle Donaldson and what happened to the money she handled as head bookkeeper at the Magic Forest. The first major complication in the story happens when Arthur and Logan went in Wal-Mart to visit Violet. Arthur gave her the Magic Forest’s map but she refused. Violet tells them what happened last night. She tells them that last night she was reading the letter that is from Mrs.
Donaldson. While she reads the letter Silas barged in, saw her reading it, and snatched the letter away from her. After he snatch it, he promptly leaves. After she told them what happened Arthur and Logan went out of Wal-Mart and they started to ride their bikes to the library, so they can get rid of all the maps before Silas came. The second major complication in the story happens when Logan met Mr. Disilvio at the party. Mr. Disilvio is a rich man, sponsor of the soccer team, and giver of parties. Mr. Disilvio asked Logan joined the soccer team with Anthony (his son), but Logan refuse. He rather read books than do sport.
Suddenly Nina came over. Logan was surprised how she is a traitor because the last couple of day she told Logan’s mom that Logan shouldn’t hang out with Arthur. Logan was mad when he saw Nina. Suddenly Mr. Disilvio warned Logan and Arthur not to go in the Magic Forest again. Mr. Disilvio knows that they went in there, because Nina told him. After he warned Logan, Mr. Disilvio went away to greet guest. The next morning Logan went to the library and he saw the sign that say “POTEST THE DESTRUCTION OF THE MAGIC FOREST! Bulldozers go into action at 8 A. M Tuesday August 25. Help us stop them! Come as your favorite nursery rhyme characters.
Be There at Sunrise! ” The third and final complication in the story happens when Arthur, Danny, Logan, and Bear found the briefcase that is full of money. It was closed to the Witch’s hut. Suddenly they heard something and started to hide in the Witch’s hut. Suddenly Danny saw Violet with Silas. Silas forced Violet to tell Mr. Disilvio where’s the money is, but Violet didn’t say anything. Suddenly Silas started to beat her up. While Silas beats her up Danny jump out of his hiding place so he can stop his dad Silas. Arthur, Logan, and Bear came after him. Suddenly they saw Mr. Disilvio holding a gun.
Suddenly they heard Johnny, Billy, and Nina coming. Danny told them that briefcase is in the Witch’s hut. He told them because he wants them to let Arthur, Bear, Violet, Logan, and himself go. He doesn’t wants to be involve. Suddenly Nina pulls out a badge. Logan was misjudge her. He was surprised that she is a detective. While she holds her badge and a revolver Mr. Disilvio grabbed Violet. Jonny, Billy, and Silas started to run during Mr. Disilvio grabbed Violet. Suddenly Mr. Disilvio started to run with the briefcase and the cops started to show up. Danny ran after Mr. Disilvio. Arthur, Logan, and Bear ran after Danny.
Then Danny pointed Mr. Disilvio’s gun at Mr. Disilvio. Mr. Disilvio folded his arm across his chest and sagged against the tree. Suddenly the cops came over. The climax of Closed For the Season occurs when Mr. Disilvio folded his arm across his chest and sagged against the tree. Suddenly the cops came over, stated that he embezzled money and cuffed Mr. Disilvio and take him off the clearing. Arthur asked the cops that did they find Silas yet. Before the cop answered, Bear ran in the bushes and suddenly Logan, Arthur, and Danny ran after him. While the four of them ran off to found Silas, the cops followed them.
The trail ends at Willie the Whale. After they arrive, slowly the vines covering the whale’s mouth moved aside, and Silas crawled out. When he gets out his eyes sought Danny, but Danny refuse to look at him. Silas was holding a sign that say ” SAVE THE MAGIC FOREST” while his eyes sought Danny. Suddenly the cops came, he’s the one who murder Mrs. Donaldson and arrest him. Later on Arthur gave the briefcase to Violet. Violet opens the briefcase. Inside the briefcase has over two million dollars, another letter from her mom Mrs. Donaldson, and a green gingerbread man. Violet reads the letter that tells everything.
After she read it, she started to cry. Later on she gave the briefcase and the letter to Nina as an evidence, but Nina need the green gingerbread man too. And with that, the problem of the murder and the money from the Magic Forest was finally ended and the story’s resolution was that Bear choose to lives with Danny, Arthur and Logan started go to school which almost every kids praised them for solving the mystery of the murder and the money from the Magic Forest, Silas claimed that Mrs. Donaldson had died by accident, and the last thing of is the Magic Forest is saved-at least for now.
My favorite character in Closed For the Season is Bear. I like him because he was very intelligence, which means smart. An example of Bear being intelligent is after the cops cuffed Mr. Disilvio Arthur asked the cop that did he get Silas, ” Bear broke away from us and tore into the underbrush….. If anyone could find Silas, it was Bear. ” (p. 166). This shows Bear’s intelligence because his knowledge knows that Silas murder Mrs. Donaldson. (dog) I would recommend this book to my friends and family because it’s gives spooky adventure and it’s a frightening mysterious book!
