Development of Universal Healthcare

Table of Content

Relevant to today’s changing world, younger people are becoming more aware of problems which will soon affect them. Healthcare has been changing and evolving which causes the costs to dramatically increase. Views of universal healthcare have changed due to the fact that not everyone reliably receives the care they need. Although many argue healthcare should remain an open market, many believe it would be more beneficial to have universal healthcare because it is required by law have health insurance, there are no barriers in obtaining our health, and the out of pocket expenses are not uncomparable.

Understandably, people who feel strongly about keeping universal healthcare out of the system have sensible reasons for doing so. Firstly, with an open ended market of medical assistance, most people who disagree with committing to universal healthcare are usually more healthy and end up paying more for those who are unable to. Kimberly Amadeo, an experienced economist, states in her article,”The sickest 5 percent consumes 50 percent of total health care costs, while the healthiest 50 percent only consumes 3 percent.” Reasonably it is a rational argument expressed to allow others to see that point of view. Secondly, the quality of doctors will decrease due to the increase of patients. Amadeo states, “People may abuse the system and seek care..which could lead to rationing of medical services.” Unnecessary visits to the hospital and doctors office do not allow the doctors to treat the patients who are in desperate need for medical attention and will lead to be more problematic. Different stances are taken when it comes to the controversy of universal healthcare and those who believe it would be less beneficial are standing for what they think is right; however, the world can be reconnected by a little piece if universal healthcare is accepted.

Universal healthcare has downfalls, but undoubtedly, the potentially new way of getting medical attention is more beneficial in more ways than one. In many circumstances, people who are living without healthcare can be fined a great amount. Dena Bunis, a senior communication advisor, explains the fines accompanied by not having healthcare, “Not having health insurance this year will cost you: The penalty is $695 per adult and $347.50 per child for a maximum of $2,085 per family,” Those people who are unable to pay for healthcare expenses could have less stress on their shoulders with universal healthcare because they are still paying for the insurance through taxes, yet not having to worry about being fined throughout the year. In addition, employers were mandated to offer health insurance to their employees. Having to worry about the budget for coverage, many times, company’s no longer have enough money to spend on employees, so it leads to jobs being taken away and available in the future. Citizens who do not have a job or cannot afford to pay out of pockets for health insurance do not have a fair chance at medical attention. Problems such as these have the potential to be fixed along the way as we slowly maneuver into universal healthcare, which would go beyond helping ourselves.

Problems are inevitable when dealing with millions of people that are entitled to their opinion and ego. People have a reputation to uphold and will do most anything to continue the said reputation no matter the situation, and this is just as true to medical assistance as it is to anything else. Not everybody is fortune enough to receive vaccinations and medication vital to a healthy lifestyle due to the inability to pay for it; however, with universal healthcare those people will be inclined to the needed assistance. Gopal Sreenivasan, a crown professor of ethics, asserts the equalization needed, “…access to a decent minimum of healthcare is manifestly required to secure an individual’s good health,” Secondly, another barrier that will no longer be an obstacle is the disease prevention and health promotion. Educating a larger population of people on ways to keep healthy will benefit the whole in the long run because of the awareness brought to the attention of those who were uninformed will show the importance. Creating a way to keep the community a healthier place will only continue to grow if the idea of universal healthcare is an open topic. Allowing everyone access to healthcare will grant better lives for the future generations by showing grace and a sense of community starting with no strings attached.

When it comes to costs many people see the higher cost and automatically put it on the back burner without looking into the benefits. First, the pay difference would increase along with the benefits that would outlast the cost. Most times the long term benefits are overlooked and underestimated to actually make a change, when in reality the future is what will define us. Gregory A. Moore, a department of health and human performance professor, illustrates the importance of the tax increase allowing equal opportunity for many citizens. Secondly, giving more power for people to receive will continue to strengthen the community as a whole and having the minimal tax increase would do just that, “…examples of positively accepted elements.” Moore communicates to the nation to emphasize the importance of universal healthcare and how when the new system is in effect, the increased tax rates will be more beneficial overall.

Universal healthcare is an alternative to creating fairness in everyday life. Distinguishing problem in healthcare systems is one way to start on making a better outcome. In reality, increasing taxes would allow more people to have access to medical assistance for something as simple as a couple more dollars a month. Everyone is unable to see the same side of healthcare due not receiving it, so every little detail is not known or understood. An effective way to fix this predicament is to continue educating everybody, not just those who don’t receive any benefits, but also the ones already covered. The passion of doctors, nurses and everyone in between is undescribable and can be delineated when providing assistance for everyone when the new healthcare system is used. There is no other logical reasoning to equip the future with a safer and more understanding community than to engage with universal healthcare is this day and age. A small increase of taxes could make a huge impact on the world and change the way prevailing forces resist universal healthcare.
