Forgiveness refers to the act of pardoning the offender for something wrong, hurting or upsetting they have done and letting go. There is this saying, “To err is human, to forgive is divine” which means that all people can make mistake as it really is natural and however, it is of essence to forgive each other and also the forgiveness act is godly. As we forgive others, we as well forgive ourselves and also secure our future forgiveness by others. This conceptual paper explores how a path to compassion forgiveness can be.
Talking from experience, failure to forgive once cost me. It ruined a good friendship I had with my best friend three years back after she betrayed me, something which ruined my reputation as it was a lie that is was mentally depressed. Surely it is very difficult to pardon someone who has hurt you especially if it is your close friend. It very much breached my trust thus the difficulty. It gave me a lesson that I should not trust anyone. The rumor spread all over the school as well as Muslim community.
It happened that one day I gained courage to confront her during when she afforded to hug me and whisperingly apologize. Therefore, I whispered back to her that it was okay though full of pain and bitterness inside my heart. I from that moment stopped speaking to her. My bitterness went to an extend of causing me to wish bad things to happen to her. This did not help me at all because it only made me lose more friends, having my sister as the only best friend and the only person I could trust. I pretended to be okay yet inside me I lacked love, peace and mercy.
My perception was that the offenders are the ones who are supposed to suffer pain but not the offended but in real sense it is the vice versa. A year passed second one and third one the same but I suffered more from minute to the other, hour to another, day to another, week to another, month to another and year to another. After the end of the three years, I made a decision and a right one to forgive her, an act which pruned away all the anger that was in me and instilled peace in me. Through this, I became compassionate (Neff, 2013).
In conclusion, I can testify that forgiveness is a way to get rid of hard feelings in us, feel light, fulfill ourselves and satisfy ourselves. It is a virtue. Those who forgive others are more satisfied than those who hold grudges because through such, enmity feelings develop (Toussaint, 2012). And wish bad things to happen to her. This did not help me at all because it only made me lose more friends, having my sister as the only best friend and the only person I could trust. And forgive others, we as well forgive ourselves and also secure. And which means that all people can make mistake as it really is.
