College Admissions: Explaining my motivation for pursuing a college education and why I consider Berea College to be an exceptional option for me. December 16, 2000. The past few years have been filled with difficulties, like they have been for many people my age. Nevertheless, we all face similar challenges during our teenage years and handle them in our own distinct ways. As I embark on this journey called life, I can confidently say that I have committed myself and achieved success. That’s simply how I see it.
Regrettably, not everyone shares my viewpoint. As a student, I actively engage in both my academic and extracurricular pursuits with equal significance. Prioritizing good grades and learning has always been of utmost importance to me. However, I also understand that involvement in clubs, sports, and after school activities can contribute to my overall personal development. Throughout high school, I have participated in various areas and have been recognized for my achievements. These include eight years of cheerleading, serving as captain twice, earning a varsity letter in cheerleading during the ’97-’98 season, being chosen as an AIM scholar in ’98, receiving recognition from Who’s Who Among American Cheerleaders, and attaining the ’98 Academic Excellence Award while participating in Virginia High School League Interscholastic Activities.
Throughout my years in school, I was a member of various clubs including the S.A.D.D. club for two years, where I served as secretary during my second year. Additionally, I joined the Pep Club, Varsity Club, Choir Club, and Computer Club. In the academic year ’99-’00, I was recognized for my achievements in several classes such as Computer Applications, Spanish I, World Geography, and Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry. Moreover, I was honored with an award for being the Most Encouraging Student.
Currently, I am a member of several clubs such as the Hiking and Outdoor Club, Ski Club, Pep Club, and Environmental Awareness Club. Additionally, this year I am taking part in Read With A Friend program. This program involves me and a group of students visiting a nearby elementary school to read to students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Moreover, to develop my independence and responsibility, I have worked summer jobs for the past three years.
I also worked to support myself financially while attending boarding school, paying for expenses such as insurance, a car, daily necessities, and soon in college. My initial employment opportunity during the summer was at the Moonlite Drive In Theater.
