If given the opportunity to make a significant change in a school I attended, I would prioritize gaining more practical experience over focusing solely on theory. While many individuals may opt to improve school uniforms to make them more fashionable, my priority lies in enhancing hands-on learning opportunities. I have several reasons to support my preference for this change.
My school primarily focuses on theoretical teaching rather than practical application, which hinders students from gaining holistic learning experiences. For instance, in English class, we only learn listening, speaking, reading, and writing within the classroom setting, without ever utilizing this knowledge in real-life situations. In my viewpoint, the school should organize trips to tourist destinations to provide opportunities for us to speak with native English speakers.
Secondly, practice can complement theory and any mistakes made during practice can enhance students’ understanding, or even lead to new knowledge. For example, scientists utilize both theory and practice in laboratories to create, improve, and modify their studies.
Most practices are engaging and thrilling. Hence, students can retain and retrieve knowledge more effectively compared to theoretical study. During my experience studying an elective subject last year, I discovered that I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with and blending colors extracted from flowers in order to prepare Thai desserts. Even now, I can vividly recall this experience.
In conclusion, theory and practice are both crucial elements in any endeavor. Theory provides the foundation for practical application, as we utilize theoretical knowledge in our practice. However, practice is equally significant as it helps us achieve desired results. In addition, practice adds an element of excitement and memorability to our lessons.
