Participating in School Annual Day

Table of Content

Just like sports and games held all the year round culminate into the sports day, all the co-curricular activities held all through the year crystallize into the Annual Day. The Annual Day is highly awaited as it is the day when even the parents are invited to watch proudly their children participating in various activities or working hard on the stage.

One can say that the preparation for this occasion goes all through the year. The students and teachers both keep their eyes wide open for outstanding performances. Yet, the preparation begins a fortnight ago when the principal announces the date and the entire school gets caught up in frenzy. Students try to come up with innovative ideas so that the item of their class gets selected.

Everywhere practices go on. Some practice for topping dance, others go for a skit or mimes. The school choir starts practicing for the songs along with their musical instruments. Those good at the drawing and painting start preparing lovely invitations. The teachers to get caught up in the excitement. It is a great time for the students to interact with each other and with teachers informally. This leads to a better understanding among all and a feeling of co-operation is fostered. Everyone works unanimously for one common aim-the annual day of the school.

Three or four days before, the invitations sent out. With the final screening of the items done by the principal and a panel of senior teachers, the programme is also decided and the schedule is printed. The students too proudly invite their parents and guardians. The practices go on in full swing and even though we all feel tired sometimes, but the zeal never leaves us. The classes and corridors look sparkling clean. The pots are freshly painted red and the flowers in full bloom make the school garden look extremely pretty. The school auditorium too slick and span.

When the long awaited day arrives, all of us just cannot wait for the programme to start. The parents and the well-wishers get seated in the auditorium along with the students at the back or in the balcony. The principal and the Chief Guest is then felicitated with flowers and a card. The programme then begins with one of the students comparing the programme.

All the people watch the entire programme with great expectation. The programme is extremely colourful with various foot tapping dances, melodious songs and an annual play. Parents and grand parents feel so proud to spot their children on stage. The students in turn perform with great zeal and dedication because their guardians and parents are a part of the audience.

The programme ends with the principal reading the annual report and prize distribution to students excelling in academics and co-curricular activities. The Chief Guest is also requested to share his feelings with the audience. After the vote of thanks, the day ends with the singing of the National Anthem and thereafter everyone proceeds for tea and refreshments.

The Annual Day makes the end of the co-curricular activities for that academic year and is an alarm bell for all of us to gear ourselves for the forthcoming final examinations. Therefore, we make the most of the moment during the Annual Day celebrations and make it very enjoyable and memorable, so that we can get back to books with a renewed zeal and fresh mind.
