This monster is a success in all aspects expect that he is overly large and he is hideous, causing society not to accept him, causing his creator not to accept him. A string of deaths lead to Frankincense’s death, and then the monster’s death by suicide because his only motivation to live beforehand was to inflict pain Victor, as Victor had done to him. Point of View- The point of view shifts from person to person throughout the novel, however since the majority of the story is Victor recalling events, the point of view can be lassie as 1st person.
However, Victor may not be a reliable source because he has his ova,JNI biases and his story may be twisted, nevertheless this may not be true but the fact that it can be makes the reliability factor of the point of view lacking. Symbols- Light-Shelley institutes light as a symbol on the very first page, when Walton tells his sister that he’s heading off to a “country of eternal light” where the “sun is forever visible (Letter 1)” and then keeps it up by having Frankincense describe his experience as “a sudden light so brilliant and wondrous. Peg AY’ We get our first indication that light isn’t all good when the monster’s first sensation is of “light pressed upon (his) nerves (Peg 1 1 1 y’. His experience of light isn’t remarkable and related to science at all: it just allows people to see exactly how hideous he is. Like the fire that gives him warmth and then burns him (Peg 1 16), the light of science is good until you get too close-?or pursue it too far. The Bible-The Bible isn’t much a theme as it is a very common allusion, but it still can classify as one. The Bible and its stories symbolize humanity, and the start of it all.
The story almost recreates the story of Adam and Eve from the Bible, but with a twist ending. The monster even says that when Victor creates the girl monster they’d go to South America and eat berries together, much like the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge from the stories of the Bible. Style- Allusion- An allusion is an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference. The novel references Paradise Lost a lot, as it is a book that is kind of like a sipping of the Bible as it tells a story of Adam ,ands Eve, and Satan.
The monster in reticular obsesses over this book and doesn’t know and spends a lot of time trying to determine if he would be Adam or Satan. Imagery-Imagery is using words to describe an image of something or someone. Imagery is evident throughout the whole novel but is predominantly found in the description of the monster.
