Ms. Ellis started her essay out with the first paragraph making me start to think about what ladies are actually looking for in a guy. The writer brings out a very good point about how ladies are not asking for too much in the perfect guy in the ladies minds they are looking for a guy who is Tall, Dark, and Handsome. Throughout the rest of Ms. Ellis’s essay she brings across the difference between what ladies think that the words tall, dark and handsome mean versus the actual definitions of the word tall, dark, and handsome.
So when ladies are looking for a guy that is Tall, Dark, and Handsome, what they want and what the true meaning of these words and completely different. Throughout the rest of the essay Ms. Ellis is trying to bring across to the readers some of the true meanings of the words tall, dark, and handsome. She is also trying to bring across to the readers some other traits that ladies are looking for in guys, the ladies definitions and true definitions. For the word Tall, ladies are looking for a guy who is not vertically challenged, and the true definition of the word Tall, would be a liar who is always depressed.
For the word Dark, ladies are looking for a guy with a tan, and the true definition of the word dark, is gloomy. And for the word Handsome, ladies are looking for a guy who is nice on the eyes, for which the true definition for handsome is someone who has very large pant size. So when a lady says that she is looking for a guy who is tall, dark, and handsome, the true definition would be a guy that is overweight and is always gloomy and unbelievable. Further on in the essay Ms.
Ellis starts to point out other meanings for some personal traits that ladies are looking for in guys. For example, ladies are looking for a funny or a smart guy. Ladies think that when they are looking for a guy who is funny or smart, that guy can make you laugh and that guy is very intelligent. Ms. Ellis points out that the true definition for a funny guy would be an underhanded guy and the true definition for a smart guy would be a guy that can cause a stinging sensation to the ladies.
Another example would a lady who looking for a romantic guy who is full of passion and surprises. Ms. Ellis points out that a romantic guy who is full of passion and surprises can actually mean an imaginary guy that is full of anger, and can cause an attack without warning. One more example would be a lady that is looking for a lover that sizzles, in which the lady is actually looking for a guy that can shrivel up and make a hissing sound. After reading the essay again, I think the structure of this essay works very well with the content of the essay.
The writer starts out telling the readers that ladies are having difficulties finding the perfect guy. She points out what ladies are looking for in a perfect guy. She then goes through with the rest of the essay pointing out what ladies are looking for in a perfect guy, and what the true meaning of what the ladies are looking for and why it is not working out very well for the ladies that are looking for a guy who is Tall, Dark, and Handsome. Ms.
Ellis does a very good job showing the readers the difference between what people think a certain meaning is for certain words, and what the true meaning is for these certain words. I think Ms. Ellis brings across a very good statement at the end of her essay. “So women, I implore you, instead of wishing for a man that is tall, dark and handsome, please ask for a fat, old, egotistical man that is quite pompous. ” According to her research, this should supply a lady with a perfect mate.
