Although scientific and technological advancements have brought convenience, they have also burdened our lives with high energy consumption and pollution. Despite a global awareness of the need to find solutions for these issues, I remain skeptical about resolving today’s most critical problems within our lifetime.
The significant problems we face have developed over a long period of time due to the global greenhouse effect. This effect has been caused by carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution, which has disrupted the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The negative impact of this imbalance on various aspects of our daily lives is well-known. We have implemented effective methods to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and prevent further damage from the greenhouse effect, but finding ways to absorb the already present large amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere remains challenging. Therefore, it is unlikely that balance can be restored within a short timeframe, emphasizing that solving these significant problems is not possible during our lifetime.
There is a lack of awareness among individuals regarding their role in addressing global issues. Desertification is becoming more and more concerning due to factors like rampant deforestation and cultivation in arid regions, which has led to its widespread recognition as an issue. Even though city dwellers may not be able to personally go to the desert and plant trees, they can still make small contributions towards the cause. These collective efforts have the potential to gradually solve the problem. However, many individuals resist changing harmful habits that worsen these issues, such as using disposable chopsticks and contributing to paper waste. As a result, instead of resolving the problems affecting our world today, we may unintentionally worsen them further in our daily lives.
In light of the preceding analysis, it is clear that resolving the challenges faced in today’s world demands a holistic and ongoing endeavor. This task goes beyond our own lifespan, emphasizing the importance for individuals to not only search for more efficient and beneficial approaches but also actively engage in their daily lives.
