Why the SEC is the Best Conference in College Football What do Alabama, LSU, Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn all have in common? They are all in the SEC and they all have won BCS championship games! Well today I am going to give you a couple reasons why the SEC is the most dominant conference in college football today, as compared to conferences such as the Big 12, Big 10, ACC, etc.

First I will go over their top tier recruitment of talented athletes, then I will go over their dominant coaching staff, and then finally one of the most important reasons, the passion of SEC players and fans, and finally I will briefly go over their dominant records since the inception of the BCS in the 1998-1999 season. Also, Alabama was able to recruit 6, 5 star recruits and Ole Miss was able to pick up 5 of them which is 11 total 5 star recruits between just two teams. Compare this to all the other conferences in the top 25 only getting a combined total of 10 and the SEC has a combined total of 21. Which all these players are thanks to the coaches and recruiting staff of the SEC. According to Cody Jackson from the bleach report, the SEC is the home to 8 of the 20 highest paid coaches in college football in 2010. With the Big 10 having only 5 and the Big 12 having 4.

With this being said, the success and worth of a coach is generally perceived by his salary which directly reflects the SEC having the most dominant of coaching staffs also. The SEC holds the highest paid coach, which I am sure any of y’all can guess, Nick Saban of Alabama, whom actually holds over a 70% win record. These all are huge factors but none of them are as effective as the passion of the SEC schools. Jackson says that Passion is the key to all the success that the SEC has reaped of the past century.

Which in the South, college football is king and basketball is almost neglected compared to it. The SEC has 8 of the 25 largest stadiums in the country and regularly sell out despite the win-loss record of the teams. One of the most infamous schools for their passionate fans is LSU. They are known for yelling “tiger bait” at everyone that passes wearing the opposing team’s colors, which I myself have experienced this when Tech played LSU a couple years ago. Now I am gonna share with you some of the success the SEC has had recently.

In the past 6 years the SEC has had four Heisman trophy winners, Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, Cam Newton of Auburn, Mark Ingram of Alabama, and Tim Tebow of Florida. The SEC has a record of 9-1 in BCS championship games since 1999. Where the only loss that the SEC has in a BCS game actually came from another member of the SEC where Alabama beat LSU 2 years ago. Now with all these facts that I have presented to you, I hope that its easy to see why the SEC is the most dominant conference in college football today.
