This was my first day at Greenland Leisure Suites. Ma’am Josie provided me with an orientation on my tasks and responsibilities. She went over the hotel’s policies, regulations, and different areas. Following the orientation, I was assigned to work in various areas of the hotel. “Wow, there are so many,” I thought to myself. I then began cleaning the rooms alongside Kuya John Rey and Ate Jocelyn. They taught me how to properly handle beddings, particularly their own. Cleaning the rooms became my main focus during my OJT, requiring a great deal of effort to complete. On my first day, both Kuya John Rey and Ate Jocelyn seemed to be in a bad mood, although I had no idea why and paid little attention to it, haha.
However, it is nice working with them. Kuya John Rey cleans the comfort room, I handle the beddings, and Ate Jocelyn takes care of dusting and mopping. We clean all the rooms from room 24 to room 47. It’s been a busy day. We finish cleaning at exactly 11:30am. I think we can have lunch, but it turns out that we’re mistaken. After cleaning the rooms, we still need to go to the restaurant in the buffet area to help out. I’m shocked to learn that we need to go there. The restaurant is catering to all tricycle drivers in Cabanatuan as part of Mayor Vergara’s program.
In addition, we eat lunch at 2:30pm after serving almost 700 packs at the buffet. My first day was a hustle every day for me, and I even had overtime. We cleaned Mr. Celso C. Ferrer’s office, who is the father of the owner of Greenland, and also cleaned their container house. Thankfully, I was only assigned to work from 8am to 5pm. This marked the end of my first day, during which I learned a lot. On June 28, 2011, I arrived at the hotel at 8am and first cleaned room 10 in the housekeeping department stock room.
After cleaning room 10, I went to the old kitchen to retrieve towels and linens for use in the make rooms and check out rooms. We then proceeded to clean the rooms using the MUR rooming list and checked out guests’ details, with the assistance of Aileen, a newly hired housekeeper, and Ate Maricel, a veteran employee at Greenland for 2 years. Initially, we prioritized cleaning the VIP rooms due to a reservation and upcoming check-out. Following that, we moved on to cleaning the Family rooms. Aileen took charge of cleaning the comfort room, while Ate Maricel and I handled the beddings.
Finally, we clean the twin rooms for the loyal guest of Greenland the San Miguel Company. However, it was only a makeup room so we took a rest at 11am. After our break, we went to the buffet area to assist the waiters and served nearly 900 packs to the guests. Every day, we have a catering program for tricycle drivers initiated by Mayor Vergara. We had lunch late again at exactly 3pm, but it’s fine because I will be going home in two more hours. Currently, Aileen, Ate Maricel, and I are in the old kitchen arranging the linen, towels, coverlet, and pillowcases.
We are patiently waiting for the time to come so we can leave and go home. I officially logged out at exactly 5pm, feeling very tired. On June 29, 2011, we arrived at the hotel before 2pm. However, we were informed by Madam Mhai, a room attendant, that the hotel was fully booked until the next day. When I arrived at the hotel, I immediately started my duties to finish early. This included cleaning all the public areas such as comfort rooms, hallways, lobbies, and more. I also cleaned the front office and emptied all the trash cans. Additionally, I sprayed air freshener throughout the entire hotel for a pleasant ambiance. Afterward, I took a short break and had a snack with my new friends in the leisure park.
After cleaning the lobby, we made sure to maintain its cleanliness. This is a command from the team leader of housekeeping. That night, there were a lot of reservations for extra beds in the suite rooms and standard rooms. With Sir Ronald, we promptly delivered and prepared the beds. “Wow, it’s really tiring.” Tomorrow is my birthday, hehe! We signed out at exactly 10pm. The service at Kings Royal was extremely delayed. “We’re already tired, and the service is taking so long.” On June 30, 2011, it’s my birthday today. A newly checked-in guest arrived and we assisted them to their respective rooms.
The guests were from the COCA-COLA COMPANY. They were tired from carrying their luggage. They needed a guest ocular of villa 4, so I became their guide. They had many questions which I happily answered. We had to clean the comfort rooms promptly due to the large number of guests that day. Despite already cleaning the comfort rooms, it marked the end of my duty at the king’s royal hotel on July 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Along with Diana and Jovian, I cleaned all the public areas of the hotel (hallways, comfort rooms, lobby).
There was a makeup room or MUR that was quite dirty. This room belonged to a newly married couple. They needed a room to get ready in, so I prepared the beddings for them. I was responsible for this task. Afterward, I cleaned the bathroom and mopped the floor. I also arranged the tissue paper and sprayed air freshener to make it smell nice. There were many requests for towels and bath mats that needed to be delivered to the villa and executive rooms. It was exhausting going back and forth. Room 1008 had a troublesome guest who would always find something to complain about, even when there was nothing wrong.
His room had already been fully cleaned and prepared. “Wow, it’s really done.” Finally, the day is coming to an end… tomorrow is a new day! We went home feeling extremely tired. July 2, 2011: Beddings again???? There were many checkouts… We cleaned all the public areas repeatedly… “I was assigned as a public attendant today.” Oh, all the public areas were so dirty! Then Sir Eirbert, a supervisor of front office, asked me to move the microwave from villa 1 to villa 2. “It was heavy and I was alone.” Hehe! I assisted a guest who had just checked in at the hotel together with Sir Fernan, a team leader of housekeeping.
This is the end of my duty for today. I’m tired… July 3, 2011 July 4, 2011 It’s a busy day! We cleaned the villa. First, I was assigned in the comfort room. Then, I mopped the floor. “kapagod maglinis ng villa”. After cleaning the villas, we cleaned the public areas. I focused on the lobby while Diana and Jovain took care of the hallways. There are a lot of newly checked in guests today. “hay walang pahinga, kagutom”. I had to work overtime again because I helped Geneva calculate the total sales in leisure. This was the end of our day. A very tiring day… July 5, 2011 It’s a busy day because there are a lot of NCI or newly checked in guests.
On Black Saturday, the resort made a significant profit. However, I am exhausted from constantly cleaning the lobby as guests frequently return to their rooms from the swimming pool. As a result, the lobby and hallways become extremely dirty. Nevertheless, I accept this as part of my responsibilities. At 4:00pm, I prepared Room 2024 together with Ace. At 7:00pm, I delivered an extra bed to Villa 6 and proceeded to clean their bathroom. It was an exhausting day! We returned home feeling very tired. On July 6, 2011, at 2:00pm, I arrived at King’s Royal Hotel and cleaned all the public areas with the assistance of Jovian and Diana. As a result, we finished early.
There was a check out from Villa 3, which was our responsibility as we were scheduled to work from 2:00-10:00. We prepared all the linen, towels, and cleaning materials to ensure a thorough cleaning. I cleaned the villa, including the comfort room where I mopped and sprayed air freshener to make it smell nice. Afterward, we decided to rest in the leisure area, where Jeneva was assigned. We were feeling very tired, so we had our miryenda (snack). Upon returning inside, we had a record in the human resources department. At that time, I cried because of what had happened. The internal security informed Sir Fernan that we were only sitting in the leisure area, but deep down we were just resting.
After cleaning the villa, we received a warning from Madam Nuqui. Despite feeling sad, we returned to our duty. The guard who was there was from Nueva Ecija, which was painful. Exhausted, I went home. On July 7, 2011, I started by changing the beddings at the hotel. We had 9 rooms to clean, as there were many guests checking out that day. We prioritized cleaning the rooms before the public areas. Apart from beddings, Diana, Dayanara, and I also cleaned the public areas. It seems like we’re always doing that, hehe! We went from being room attendants to public attendants. At 8:00 pm, new guests checked in and we helped them find their respective rooms.
Next, we prepared room 2012, which was the final room needed to complete the accommodations. We found ourselves still at work instead of being off. Hehe! So we returned home feeling very tired…again and again… On July 8, 2011, at 1:30pm, I arrived at the King’s Royal Hotel. The first task upon arrival was to clean the front office and dispose of trash. Afterwards, we proceeded to clean the public areas. It was not a busy day, but I’m certain that tomorrow will be busier due to numerous reservations, especially from KODAK who will be using the board room. “It’s frustrating today, hehe!” So I decided to organize the linens, bed sheets, and fitted sheets. We returned home feeling happy because we weren’t too exhausted. July 9, 2011 was a busy day with a lot of newly checked-in guests (NCI).
Guest from METRO BANK… With the help of Jay and James, I assisted Sir Fernan in carrying the guest’s luggage to their respective rooms. After assisting the guest, we repeatedly cleaned the public areas. It was tiring, but we still had more work to do immediately. Eventually, we finished cleaning and mopping the public areas. Next, we moved on to cleaning and mopping the power house. After a short rest, we had four rooms to make up: 1 executive room, 2 standard rooms, and 1 deluxe room. We started from the top before moving to the bottom. I’m so tired! This was how my duty ended for the day. I went home exhausted. July 10, 2011 July 11, 2011
On July 12, 2011, I arrived at the hotel at 1:45 PM. Sir Fernan called me and instructed me to deliver 8 towels to the executive rooms and standard rooms. After completing the deliveries, we cleaned the public areas as usual. At 7:00 PM, I made an extra bed in room 1001, which was a standard room with Sir Ronald. Additionally, a guest requested a cup of coffee, and although it was not our responsibility, I called the restaurant to have it delivered. The task was successfully completed. Later that night, at 9:00 PM, I also delivered and arranged an extra bed in room 2022 with jovain. At exactly 10:00 PM, I signed out and went home feeling very tired. Then, I rested. On July 13, 2011, I arrived at the King’s Royal Hotel at 1:45 PM.
We repeatedly cleaned the public areas with my new friends Krisanta and Almel. Together, we mopped the hallway and lobby. I also kept an eye on the lobby and comfort rooms with Diana. On this particular day, there were many guest oculars. I took charge of this task because Sir Ronald was busy mopping the floor in the lobby and hallway. I assisted guests in the deluxe room, then in Villa 4, and then in the suite room. We also had another guest ocular in the villa before finally ending with a guest ocular in the Royal Suite room A. I am exhausted and hungry after completing these tasks. We went home, feeling very tired yet again. July 14, 2011 – The day went by so quickly.
Now, the countdown starts as we are nearing the end of this training. However, it is unfortunate that we have to train for an additional 40 hours, extending our time. We spent several hours cleaning the public areas repeatedly. Afterwards, I helped Mark clean room 2013 because there was a guest checkout. I thoroughly mopped the comfort room as it was dirtier compared to others. I assisted guests in the deluxe room, although it was not a hectic day. We happily went home on July 15, 2011. It was a busy day with many newly checked-in guests. We cleaned the public areas once again. There was a guest from Getzpharma. There were no Pax ready for NCI at 8:00 in the evening. Therefore, Sir Ronald and I assisted those guests.
In the standard room, we had an additional bed that needed to be prepared and delivered. So, we completed the preparations and went back home. On July 16, 2011, my friends and I repeatedly cleaned the public areas. Additionally, a guest from 2007 requested slippers, an extra toothbrush, and toothpaste, which I delivered to room 2007. The executive rooms had a total of 4 MUR (Multiple Use Rooms). Before entering the rooms, we took a brief break. Subsequently, we proceeded to make up the executive rooms. Later in the evening, at 9:00, I delivered extra towels and beds to room 2005 and the villa. Following that, we returned home and rested. July 17, 2011 July 18, 2011.
I arrived at 1:30 in the afternoon because Madam Rhea and Sir Ken were going to visit us at the hotel. I waited for them and they went to the Human Resources department to speak with Madam Liceria Nuqui about what was happening in our duties. I was happy to see them and it gave me strength to handle whatever was happening at the hotel. After their visit, I cleaned the lobby, hallway, and comfort rooms. Once I finished cleaning, I went to the villa to deliver a bath towel. It was a busy day because there was a ballroom dancers event happening at the hotel. While mopping the floor, I enjoyed watching the dancers perform. Finally, we finished our work and went home. On July 19, 2011, I arrived early at the hotel.
We were upset because Sir Fernan called a meeting to discuss the towel incident at the villa, which was used for mopping the floor. During the meeting, he explained the purpose behind it and we paid close attention to understand his explanation. He emphasized that such incidents should not happen again as it could have a negative impact on the reputation of the king’s royal hotel. After the meeting, we resumed our work and responsibilities, which involved cleaning the public areas. We were extremely exhausted and went home. On July 20, 2011, my friends and I continued cleaning the public areas. The hotel had a reservation for guests who were getting married. Once we finished cleaning the public areas, we had a room to prepare for their arrival.
We immediately clean in order to rest early, hehe! We also delivered an extra bed to room Excecutive 2 and prepared it with Diana. After visiting and delivering the extra bed, I cleaned the lobby, hallway, and comfort rooms. I then went to the villa to deliver another bath towel. This concluded our duty for the day. Tomorrow is a new day where we will face whatever comes our way. On July 21, 2011, I arrived at 1:50 in the afternoon. I cleaned the public areas again and again with my friends. The guest in room 1001 requested a shower cap and extra toothbrush and toothpaste, so I brought it to their room.
After cleaning the public areas, we immediately clean a room so we can rest early. We also had a snack during our break with Jeneva. I took a short rest to regain energy for the next hour. “Para makabuhat ng mga bed hehe!” There was a check out in the suite rooms, and we had to clean two rooms. With the assistance of our room attendant, Sir Ronald, we finished early and rested. Hurray! We are done. This day was very happy, and I enjoyed being a trainee. Then, we went home with other trainees on July 22, 2011. Yehey! We are nearing the end of our training… I am excited. I arrived at the hotel at 1:45 in the afternoon.
After cleaning the marketing office, I proceeded to clean the front office. I made sure to spray air freshener to keep the area smelling good. Once the office spaces were taken care of, we moved on to cleaning the public areas. These areas required thorough mopping due to the presence of mud. In the housekeeping department, I organized the linen before mopping the floor and spraying air freshener again. After a long day, we finally went home and I took some rest, knowing that there would be more work to be done the next day. On July 23, 2011, I arrived at 1:50 in the afternoon and continued cleaning the public areas along with my friends. In particular, we paid careful attention to thorough mopping and sprayed an air freshener in the lobby. Additionally, I assisted guests in the deluxe room.
At the villa, we had a guest and I assisted them in exploring the premises. I provided explanations about the rooms and the comfort rooms. The guest expressed satisfaction with what the villa had to offer, which made me happy. We prepared the beddings in room 1005 and I also cleaned their comfort room and mopped the floor. Despite feeling tired, I found joy in this training experience, despite occasional problems. In the end, we returned home with other trainees as our duty for the day came to an end. It was an exhausting day on July 24, 2011. Tomorrow will mark the conclusion of our duty at the king’s royal hotel.
We had taken a picture at the hotel, but unfortunately, Lizle’s digital camera was lost, causing a problem for us. However, Arlene owned another digital camera, so we used that to take a picture. This situation was a problem and it made us feel sad. Hay! We then went to the human resources department where all trainees in housekeeping were required to go. The meeting was finished! Hay, we were all feeling sad about what had happened that day. So, we returned to our work and continued cleaning the public areas with my friends. A newly checked-in guest arrived (NCI), and we helped them to their rooms. I am really tired and very sad. Later on, with the help of Sir Joymie, another room attendant in this hotel, we delivered and prepared an extra bed in the villa.
Both of us were exhausted from carrying the 9 beds in that villa. We were really tired! It was time to sign out and go home because I was tired and hungry. I went home feeling very tired, as usual. July 25, 2011 was the day we would finish our duties and responsibilities at the hotel. I had a great time with my friends, as well as with my sir and madam at the hotel. I arrived early at the hotel since it was our last day at the king’s royal hotel and leisure park. I cleaned the public areas such as the lobby, comfort rooms, and hallways. I mopped the floors and sprayed air freshener in all corners, especially in the lobby and comfort rooms. After that, we took a picture! This was our last day and I will miss them.
The hotel had a newly check in (NCI) so Sir Joymie and I assisted the guest to their respective room. Afterward, we took a break and had a snack. This night made me happy as it marked the end of a long day and the completion of my final training. Despite facing numerous challenges, I am proud to share the happiness that exists in our school. I want to express my sincere gratitude and bid farewell to our dear friends, particularly our room attendants who taught and understood us. I am immensely thankful for their support during the difficulties that our friends encountered. Thank you for everything, King’s Royal Hotel and Leisure Park. This experience has helped me learn and develop my skills, especially in housekeeping. Thank you and goodbye!
