China should end compulsory military training for students of all ages. Do you remember the tough time in last year September. That we wearing the battle fatigues, standing under the heavy sun everyday half a month. We called it military training and the globe called ours military training as “toothbrush training”. Because everyone is taught to make the bed in the same way. Everyone is taught to place the toothbrush at the correct angle on a sink. I don’t know how boys feel, but in a girl’s eye, this experience was an unforgettable memory for me.
Maybe it’s the most difficult time in my life. I think you have guessed a bit that my thesis is “China should end compulsory military training for students of all ages. ”And I’ll introduce you a word “conscription”, conscription is the compulsory enlistment of people in some sort of national service, most often military service. Just like our military training. At present, every Chinese citizen, both male and female, who attend further education are required to attend a military training period of around 20 days as a part of a military education.
In fact, military conscription only exists in theory and reinforced by law so since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Due to China’s huge population and large pool of candidates available for recruitment who volunteer to join the regular armed forces, universal military conscription has never been enforced. It has not been required in practice at all. Conscription is controversial because it violates individual rights and freedom.
American libertarians oppose it, as Ron Paul says, “Conscription is wrongly associated with patriotism, when it really represents slavery and involuntary servitude. “So does the philosopher Ayn Rand opposed it, he said “Of all the statist violations of individual rights in a mixed economy, the conscription is the worst. It is an abrogation of rights. It negates man’s fundamental right—the right to life. ” Most of people except the military enthusiasts are unwilling to carry out the obligation of compulsory military training and try to avoid it as possible as they can.
Compulsory military training bring us pressure and trembling that our country has a tend of militarism and warlike. And innermost we all want to live a peaceful life. As of the early 21st century, many states no longer conscript soldiers, Many states that have abolished conscription just still reserve the power to resume it during wartime or times of crisis. For example, as we all know, when Hitler appears on stage to practice dictatorial governance. Germany has launched the second World War in 1939 and bring a serious disaster to the world.
But after the Germany got unified. It has suspended for peacetime by federal legislature effective from 1 July 2011. Also the Italy has suspended for peacetime in 2005. These Fascism and Militarism countries in the second World War have suspended the mandatory conscription and still keep a peaceful national condition. And the superpower the United States has abolished the draft in 1975 by President Gerald Ford ,however males between 18 to 25 need to register with the U. S. Selective Service System. Developed country the United Kingdom has abolished in December 31 1960.
And so on those countries all maintain a peaceful and stable status. To end compulsory military training will bring several advantages. First, permanent conscription can lead to a more militaristic society. It instills a militaristic mindset on the conscripted population – even if they are not put into a military setting, conscripts working in a national service labor pool would almost certainly be subjected to a military-style lifestyle and environment. If stop it, our society will be under the influence of less militarism and less warlike.
We can get more peace in everyday life. Second, It can be argued that in a cost-to-benefit ratio, conscription during peace time is not worthwhile and in any case there is little threat of a war in most countries with conscription. If end it,we can have more economic foundations to constuct education,housing and health care. So do you think China should or not end compulsory military training for students of all ages?
