Her father, a former newspaper editor and proprietor, was the lawyer in whose office, when she was a child, she would sometimes listen to her father and his associates discuss their cases.Lee began writing To Kill a Mockingbird in 1957. The novel was published in 1960 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. It was immediately successful, winning the Pulitzer Prize and becoming a classic of modern American literature.Lee’s father died before the book was published, but her mother lived to see its success.
