In terms of memory techniques, jingles, words, and pegging are the three methods that work best for me. Out of these techniques, jingles prove to be the most effective in helping me recall information. For instance, I created a jingle to remember the telephone numbers of my faculty members. Since their numbers are identical but their extensions differ, utilizing a jingle made it simpler for me to retain this information. However, story lines tend to be less effective for me as they often cause confusion and lead me astray. When it comes to learning, I find jingles more beneficial compared to words or pegging. If a jingle is catchy enough, I can effortlessly retain information just like how lyrics from the Goldfish commercial stick with me: “The snack that smiles back Goldfish”. Whenever I come across any Goldfish products, the song immediately springs into mind. Additionally, being a visual learner allows me to establish connections between various things.

Using memory techniques such as the word technique and pegging technique helps me retain information more effectively. For example, I use the word technique to remember the order of operations with PEMDAS: please excuse my dear aunt Sallie, which stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, and Subtract. Additionally, I utilize the pegging technique for history, where I use different color note cards to separate and categorize events by decade. By connecting events with specific colors, such as using green note cards for the 1970s, blue note cards for the 80s, and red cards for the 90s, I am able to better understand and remember what happened during each decade. Looking ahead, I plan to practice the VCR3 memory technique in the future due to its emphasis on visualization and concentration.
