Almost all people have to choose a professional career for their lives. There are different kinds of fields and careers such as educational fields (teachers, tutors, lecturers, professors), lawyers, doctors, designers, scientists etc… I have been interesting in Fashion Design since I was young. At that time, Fashion major was not that popular in my country, Burma. Fortunately, my father has been living in the USA for several years. Therefore, I decided to go to the USA in my tens. I faced many difficulties to immigrate to the USA because of the visa problems.
I have been living in San Francisco for three months. Speaking English is not that difficult for me because I would speak English and learn English a lot since I was three. However, I have tried to adapt the cultures and environment of the San Francisco. There has been a difficulty I face. It is that I have to choose the right college for my education. As soon as I had arrived here, I went to City College for non-credit. I entered the country in September and so I could not catch to attend the credit courses.
When I was in City College for non-credit courses, I discussed with the counselor for many times. At first, I planned to go to the City College for credit courses. I also finished placement test, orientation, new student’s counseling, and registration. I registered for fifteen units. When I discussed with the counselor for the last time, he gave me information about FIDM. He said, “If you are really interested in Fashion Design, you should visit FIDM and look for some information. ” After that, I decided to visit FIDM and I found the Web pages about FIDM at online.
One of the Admission Advisor contacted me and I decided to visit FIDM, San Francisco. My first impression about FIDM was really wonderful. As soon as I entered the FIDM, I saw the reality of Fashion Institute. The building is wonderful and shows the Fashion statues with different colors. The building is decorated with modernized colors and structures. The admission advisor instructed me well and patiently. I can get a part-time job after first year and I can get a full-time job after I finish Associates Degree.
I found that FIDM has a better education method and books and suppliers are really interesting at the Web pages. When I saw the library at the first time, I made my decision to attend the courses. The library has lots of books especially for Fashion, and I can read monthly issues, fashion history, fashion guide books and many kinds of Fashion books. I can see the Fashion Shows from satellites and I can borrow videos and DVD of Fashion Shows. I saw several kinds of fabric I have never seen before at the Fabric factory.
One of the reasons I choose FIDM is that I don’t have to spend much time for my Associates Degree. I have to spend only one and a half years to finish my degree. After I finish A. A, I will continue for my B. Sc. I can also study advanced fashion designs, foot wears designs, and Business Management at the same place. At the same time, I can also get a job at famous brand companies with the recommendation of FIDM. I think that FIDM can make my life brighten and can make me confident. Although the payment and tuition fees is expensive, I think my investment deserves for my life career.
After I finish A. A, I will continue my advanced studies to be graduated as B. Sc. , I decided. The students from FIDM can get a job at famous brand companies such Gucci, Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic etc… I will try to be a famous designer and I will always be proud of being FIDM student. Another reason is I do not need to choose requirements to go to the university. The courses contain General Studies like Composition, American History and Economy, Fashion Marketing. Therefore, I can study at the same place and I do not need to choose many subjects to join the university.
FIDM is a really different kind of college, I recommend. Nowadays, Fashion is popular in the world. Almost everybody is interested in wearing Fashionable dresses and studying Fashion Design. As a girl of 21st Century, I swear I will improve Fashion from one side of a place. My dream is to settle down my career in Milan, Italy. I have already decided to study at FIDM with my best and I would like to be an outstanding student and a career woman of FIDM. I believe that FIDM can make my dreams do come true.
