According to the Sydney Morning Herald website, waking up early can improve and benefit a lot of stuff that will be going on in your life. It also turns out that waking up early can put your priorities to be more focused just like doing some things that can strengthen the mind and body. Those who wake up early are much more successful than those who tend to wake up late. Christoph Randler (2010) discovered that those who wake up early in the morning can think more of the long-term goals and considered much more active. Zoë B (n.d.) said that morning person can be reported having a positive emotion and achievement that can last up the entire day. She then said that by having a positive mood early in the morning, it will be continued throughout the day. In this helping project, I will be able to discuss the ways on how my mom can conquer the difficulty of waking up early in the morning.

To know if an Individual has enough sleep, each factor will depend on what is the age of the person. If it is an Infant (0 – 3 months), It should be 14 – 17 hours a day. If it is an Infant (4 – 11 months), It should be 12 – 15 hours a day. For toddlers (ages 1 – 2 years) It is required to have 11 – 14 hours a day. For Preschool children (ages 3 – 5) require 10 – 13 hours a day. School-age children (6 – 13) requires 9 – 11 hours a day. While for teenagers (ages 14 – 17) they need about 8 – 10 hours each day. Lastly, for adults, they mostly need 7 – 9 hours a day to have a complete sleep. The amount of sleep an Individual need also depends on how they deprived the sleep during the past days. Sleep Deprivation may also affect the system of the body and the keeping the eyes focused. (WebMD, n.d.)

The symptoms may usually happen during those periods of sleep that are suddenly disrupted especially because of the types of sleep (Rapid Eye Movement (REM) – active sleep) (Non – Rapid eye movement NREM – quiet sleep) during the first part of the night or it is also because of the insufficient amount of sleep. The warning can keep up to 10 minutes or even an hour or more after waking up. There was a theory that sleep inertia was caused by the development of a neurotransmitter called the adenosine in the brain during the NREM sleep that may cause sleepiness. There are also other sleep disorders that can aggravate sleep inertia which is the delayed sleep-wake phase disorder (DSPD) which can be characterized by not falling asleep at the start of the night or usually until 2 a.m. or later and the Sleep Apnea wherein it disturbs the quality of sleep. Individuals are having a hard time to go out of bed because of the inner clock which is also known as the phase delay. Matheson (n.d.) has said that setting an alarm 15 minutes earlier than your usual alarm can train an Individual to wake up earlier. An Individual should also not sleep late during the weekends because what will happen is that their time of sleep will be insufficient for the weekdays. Because of the exposure of light just like turning on the lights while sleeping, or even using gadgets can cause phase delay because the brain of a person is very sensitive to light that can trick the brain thinking that it is not yet time for bed because it is daytime. Some Scientists in the University of California recently d=found out that a single amino acid can balance the inner clock in the body. Jessica Cheng (2008)

Studies have shown that those who are a morning person tends to be more optimistic, more positive and more likely to encounter pleasure and happiness in their life. Waking up early can have a huge impact on the mental health of a human being. Extra time in the morning reduces the stress and can avoid rushing on doing things that a person usually does when they don’t wake up early. Those who get up early usually have healthier routines unlike those who wake up late that causes them to have depression. It will create a great positive attitude that can improve an Individual’s overall well-being. Helen Sanders (2013)

In summary, several studies have shown that waking up early or being a morning person can have a lot of benefits in your life that can boost, motivate and strengthen not only your physical health but also the mental health. a short period of time of sleeping will have a big change in your body and brain that may cause a lot of downsides that may affect your system. Every Individual should have the right time and effort to sufficiently give the nutrients and important factors that can help to improve the right sleep cycle.
