information | Short summary on Goblin MarketThe story was written by Christina Rossetti in 1862 and was inspired by an old folk tale. It was first published in 1859 in The Germ, a magazine edited by Charles Dickens. The Goblin Market is a story about two sisters who are tempted by the Goblin Market, a magical place where fruit and sweets grow on trees. They go there and eat some of the food, but are then rescued by their sister. The first page of the story opens with a description of a rural English town in the mid-19th century. The narrator describes a typical day in her life: she wakes up, dresses herself and her sister Laura in their “best clothes,” has breakfast, and then goes out to play in their garden. She describes an incident when they were playing with some flowers and Laura picked one that was too heavy for her to carry. She then describes how they came across an old woman who asked if they wanted some fruit from the Goblin Market. She then tells us about how they were tempted by this offer and went to visit this place which she says is located somewhere nearby but no one knows where exactly. The second page continues with the story by describing how Lizzie and Laura ate some of the fruit from Goblin Market but soon realized that it wasn’t good for them after all because it gave them an awful headache. They then saw another woman who told them not to eat any more of that. General Essay Structure for this Topic
